Well, Ive stumbled upon a great group here! At the thrift, me spots a clean LP copy of the Best of the Statler Bros (on Mercury) for 2 bucks. Get it home and wow. This is a damn good group! Prior to this, I'd only known of 'Flowers on the Wall' from the Pulp Fiction OST which I have on cd. This version blows it away. I've never extracted more joy out of 2 bucks!

Unique fact: inside the LP, the sleeve has a whole article named, Tape Piracy, Everyone's Problem. It goes on to explain in detail how an RIAA investigator proceeded to smash a rack of pirated 8 tracks in a Nashville filling station! had a good chuckle considering how screwed the RIAA is these days.

Anyways, what a cool album this is.

They had a BUNCH of hits on country radio back in the '70s-"Class of '57", "Official Historian on Shirley Jean Burrell", "Did You Know ?","Silver Medals & Sweet Memories", good 4-part harmony. I used to listen to country radio at Richmond as a reaction to the horrible disco of the day, & it REALLY p*ssed off the preppies....Which was reason enuff right there.

If you ever run across one of their albums with Saturday Morning Radio Show on it, give it a listen. It is so bad it is great.... They become Lester "Road Hog" Moran and his Cadillac Cowboys with Harold the bass being Lester. I pull it out frequently just for therapy........

Oh, man, I had forgotten about that record! I used to have a copy, and it is really funny.

Every time I drive by Kings Mountain I think about stopping in --- 'cept I don't know where you live!

I think the only song I remember from them was Counting Flowers on the Wall...

Still have my Columbia promo 45 of "Flowers On The Wall". A great song about boredom and isolation (of all things).

Hit that quote button down at the bottom of the message window--that should do the trick. And next time you are heading down around Atlanta, let me know.
