I just demagged the entire tape path on my Teac A-3340S for the first time I have owned it (had it about a year).
Ho-Li Shite!
:jawdrop:
I am playing back Tubular Bells recorded at 15ips offa new 200gm pressing....oh my god.....I don't remember it sounding this good when I taped it!
This is truly an amazing machine.
I can't wait to hear the record and repro results of the concert I am recording in a couple of days.
I also cleaned the entire tape path more thoroughly than it ever has been done in it's entire lifetime (at least 20 qTips used on that alone!), and I cleaned every connection, the faces of all the buttons and all the knobs, too!
This. Is. Wonderful.

It makes a big difference eh?
Use alcohol wipes also. They are cotton, grid thread weave and do not shead the little wispy threads as easily as Q-tips. Don't use the alcohol on the rubber pinch roller. Ane be sure to use the 91% rubbing alcohol. You'll hear a lot of testimony about various solutions for tape cleaning. Alcohol will clean rubber very nicely but will dry out the rubber (over time). Do not use alcohol for pinch rollers  Use Rubber Rejuvinator. I think it's a Caig product. I still have about 6 ounces of the original TEAC stuff. Works great! cleans and keeps the rubber soft and "grippy", like racing tires.

I didn't clean the pinch roller, as I know about the alcohol and rubber. It's still fairly grippy.
And I cannot get over how big of a difference 2 minutes of my time make with the sound of this!

Yes demagnetizing is very important for optimum S/N ratio and for better high freq reproduction. Also magentized heads will strip away high frequency content. For the pinch roller, rubber rejuvenatior is ok for newer rubber, but should be used with caution with old rubber as it can break it down and turn to goo.

I use R3 very sparinginly on a Q-tip, and try and demag about every 10-12 hours of use. It may seem like overkill, but it's a habit that I've become accustomed to.
