marantz sd-3000 ,2-speed... fixer?

i have one, from a swap deal of components , that the belts have turned to goo,
and have goooeyed all over the tires and pulleys and the deck doesn't play .

anyone who's cleaned belt goo knows what a freakin' disaster this stuff can be...just to get it on your hands... you need MEK or Acetone to get it
off you...but i can't use it on the plastics inside.

is this deck worth fixing?

Wow, what a loaded question! The answer depends on how much you are willing to put into it and how badly you want it fixed. I'm sure you can get belts for it somewhere and a service manual will tell you how to bring it back and align it to specifications.

However, once you do all that, there's nothing that says another deck half it's price won't blow it away in performance, especially if it's a well maintained Nakamichi! (Does my screen name give away my cassette deck brand loyalty?:D)

All kidding aside though, it's worth fixing if you intend to keep it. If you intend to sell it and make a profit, well that's an entirely different story.

Let's say you decide to fix it and after investing in new belts and mechanical parts just to bring the transport back to life, you discover it needs re-capping. Or the head is bad. Or the motor is shot. Or any number of other problems you may not discover until the transport works. At that point, you may need to re-evaluate if it is worth it. OTOH, you could replace the belts and it performs flawlessly!

Bottom line is if you want it and you think it is worth it, then it is.
