A Couple of Marantz Receivers

Here are my Marantz 2500 and 2285B receivers. One sounds better than the other...

Seriously, how would you describe the sound differences between the two?

I have a 2270 and 2238b; I like them both but they're remarkably different sounding. The 2270 has more presence and warmth, the 2238b has finer detail and a more sensitive tuner.

WOW! I never realized the size difference before until seeing them side by side. The 2285B is itself a stout little package to pick up and carry around. That 2500 must be a back breaker!

My own 2285B sounds better than almost everything else in my collection. So my guess is the mighty-mite 2285B.

In my opinion, one of the better sounding Marantz receivers of all time.

Both have the signature smoothness. The 2500 is supremely powerful and the difference is noticeable, kind of like a V8 and a 4 cylinder. The 2285B is finely resolved and nuanced in such a way the 2500 is not. It seems to be much faster and quieter than the 2500. The 2500 is still a great receiver but side by side, my preference is clear. The 2285B is more engaging and ultimately, more satisfying.
