I'm trying to integrate this new BIC TT into my second (HT) system. The rca cables are shaky and need to be replaced and I am wondering if it's ok to use longer ones...maybe 6ft?

Also...does the TT HAVE to be grounded to the receiver, or can it be grounded to the screw that holds the cover on the electrical outlet in the wall? Thanks.

If your turntable is outside the three-foot range, you might want to look at this thread on Petra cables.

Six feet seems to be the outer limit for these. If your turntable is five feet away from your receiver, it might be worth clipping a pair of Petras down to length and soldering on new phono interconnects.
Is the reason that you don’t want to ground to your amp because it doesn’t reach? If so, you can just extend it. The wall plate may be “iffy” as a ground. Another suitable ground would be to either negative binding post on your speaker connections.

for the rca cables: the shorter/lower capacitance, the better.

for the ground wire: it should be attached to the receiver. extend it if you have to.

I run a 12 foot standard shielded RCA cable to my SME/Thorens and a 20 guage bare wire as the ground, and have no problems whatsovever (dead quiet with volume all the way up). Not for resistance, I can't speak, since I don't know what I'm missing...if anything. Lower capacitance does sound like the way to go for a longer cable run.

Edit...after reading the above mentioned thread it dawned on me that the 12' cables I am running are video cables, hence have a lower capacitace to being with.....makes alot of sense.
