Picked up a TR-6658 tuner, and an AM-4658 integrated out of the trash. No sound from the amp though... Damn! The amp has a 360W power consumption, and pre/main. Fairly heavy for a small guy. Tuner lights up greenish, kinda neat!

Looks like Sears Best all right. Reminds me of Pioneer/Sansui seperates of the era.

Had a Sansui tuner in the late seventies that looked damn near identical!

I'm curious about whether the Sears amp had dual transformers like the Sansuis do. Post a nudie?

Nope, just a single. Too bad! Powers up, no sound though...

Changed the right speaker fuse, we now have sound from the left side. I'll play with it later. She needs a bigtime cleaning and some of her switches are loose too!

360W power consumption, and the size of the heatsinks...looks to be about a 50-60WPC job.

I got my AM-4658, and the Tr-6658 tuner from SA for $10.00, and at first in my mind before I heard it, I was pooh, pooh it it. Like how good could hese SEARS audio gears really sound. Well, after I got it home and cleaned it, I was very amazed at the sound of both units. I put them agains my Luxman R1070, and even my Pioneer SA-9900. Well, I was very surprise at how close this two unit came on a tractor pull. Of course the Pioneer Sa-9900 was better, but not by much. Hard to tell with the Luxman R1070because the Luxman was smother, but not better. Like the other k member said, this amplifier is very heavy. I would say the sound was closeer to my NEC AUA-8000e amplifier, but not as good on the channel seperation. then again the NEC have to transformer and power supply for the power amp section. I tested it agains some of my Yamaha such as AX-630, and Rx770, and AV-85Py 100 watter., and because the Sears unit used all transistor and NO IC, there was not question that the AM-4658 sounded better. In fact I have 6 black Yamaha, and not a single one of them was close to this Sers unit. So, guys go and hunt down some of these older, and leaser named brands. You will be surprise and happy at the same time. Why, $10-$15.00, and it much better then the newer gears.

Cheers, Mike.

Hi whitey.........In the Wack too!.....BFM of course! Picked up a nice "Mint" 60's after market 3 piece consul cabinet there.... a few weeks back... $168 with tax.....Scott LK-30 tube amp....Procom Tuner....Dual 1019...and the bonus were the Wharfedale Golden 10" RS in the cabinets....I have them stored at my Mom's. Sounds nice....might build some boxes for the 10" fullrange Wharfedale's! Too bad the previous owner never went for the Scott AM/FM Tuner at the time!

Lucky dog! I might have to move out there. I like BFM and MCC in Abby, got a few good things but not like some of yours. Next time I'm out there we should get a coffee and swap stories. Cheers Mike.

PS, sorry for the thread jack!
