Hello ... I recently upgraded to an inexpensive "universal" digital player, a Denon DVD-2910, for my 2-channel system, replacing a DVD player borrowed from my office that decodes HDCD and another borrowed from my family room that plays SACDs.
Though I have several RR HDCD recordings, I own exactly *one* hybrid/SACD!
Can anybody recommend their favorite "gotta have it in Hi-Res" recordings? I am not particularly interested in replacing music already in my library with the hi-res version (who has that kind of time or money?) but instead I am interested in adding music to my library in SACD or HDCD when available. What should I get first? (In light of recent sad news, I think Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" is on the list ... )
I checked out the music reviews and other music and digital recording discussion forums, but it is a bit overwhelming and I am not quite finding what I am looking for. Maybe a local discussion would help me and somebody else, too, perhaps?
Thanks ...
One of my favorites is "Unauthorized" by Dave's True Story (Chesky SACD-233). Great DSD recording and fun early 60's style jazz with witty lyrics sung by Kelly Flint with a wink and a smie. Essential IMO. (Edit: Also a hybrid disc.)

Hi Don,
That Denon universal player is quite nice. I have a Denon DVD-1920 in my home theater setup.
Steely Dan's Gaucho sounds fantastic in SACD. It's not a hybrid though. Do you like jazz? If you don't already have Brubeck's Time Out, then the SACD is another winner. Again, it's not a hybrid.
Cheers
Edit: Apparantly Gaucho is a hybrid. My mistake as I didn't think it was.

http://sa-cd.net is the resource for all things SACD. I’d suggest you check it out and see if any of your favorite titles are on high rez. You might be surprised.
Thanks, Quint - VERY cool site!

Glad I have the SACD DSOTM.
The Grateful Dead have their entire catalog of studio releases in glorious remastered HDCD. Not to mention all the new vault releases and box sets. If you're just a casual Dead fan I would reccommend Workingman's Dead and American Beauty. Both are acoustic albums that were recorded in the same sessions in 1970, but released on different days. They built a 30+ year career on those songs.

Alison Krauss - Live SACD
A very well recorded CD. There is also a DVD that is good too.

Hank Jones Great Jazz Trio July 6th - Live At Birdland [Hybrid SACD]
Featuring Hank Jones on piano, Omar Hakim on drums and John Patitucci on bass.
Pricey, but good. You can purchase them at www.eastwindimport.com (no affiliation), although July 6 is out of stock at the moment.

Just the thread I was looking for. Earlier this week, on another part of the forum, I was asking about SACD.
Maybe you guys can help, and i've received a little bit of feedback on that other thread.
I have a 2nd Gen PlayStation 3 (80 GB) which has the ability to play SACDs. However, due to my configuration where the PS3 is located, I wasn't sure if it would be worth it.
The PS3 is connected via HDMI to my TV. My TV is connected via stereo RCA cables to my receiver. My receiver is a surround receiver, hooked up with front and rear channels, but does not feature HDMI capability.
Two channel stereo on this system sounds excelent. But would it really make a difference with the SACD over a conventional format like digital or CD?
Feedback would be appreciated!!
Thanks all!

The Dark Side of the Moon SACD(hybrid) it's just amazing. Maybe the best recorded/masterized "rock" recording I've ever heard.
That's just my humble opinion.
