I've learned that the most critical listening is done in true Stereo. However as I play with the two Decoders on my receiver I find I like some of them. Now I really don't know what I'm listening to or for, just a couple days ago I enjoyed interference :).

Does anyone use NEO:6 or DTS ProLogic Music?

I find I like NEO:6 because it seems to add some separation between the voice, which is stereo and the music, like depth in a big room. However if I listen to classical where the voice does not come though on L/R as much as it's placed in the middle somewhere, I don't like any processing. I found that many of my pop/rock/soft rock/country songs have voice that comes though the L&R like the singer is right at the mic, my classical and opera does not. Does that add up?

I've played around with both. The effects were initially cool to hear, but it didn't take me long to go back to good old stereo for stereo recordings.

Does anyone use NEO:6 or DTS ProLogic Music?I have used Dolby Surround Pro-Logic, Dolby Pro-Logic II and SRS Circle Surround on my receiver to good effect. These matrix type decoders work particularly well when playing back quadraphonic records and tapes from the quadraphonic era. In my experience these modern matrix decoders will do a better job as decoding SQ, QS and Stereo-4 matrix records than the basic, early logic or “Full-Logic” SQ, QS and Stereo-4 decoders of the quadraphonic era. I generally prefer the results I get with the Circle Surround over Dolby Pro-Logic II over Dolby Surround Pro-Logic. In terms of playing old-fashioned two-channel stereo, the results can be quite variable from great to not so good.

I listen to stereo recordings processed to Logic 7 on my Lexicon. I haven't look back.

Stereo sounds bland to me now. The seperation of the vocals that gets directed (mostly) to the center channel really improves the detail. I'm amazed how natural the listening experience is. Each instrument seems to occupy its own space.

It's not a cure all for everything, bad recordings still sound bad.
