A lot of potential there! It was between a Sansui 5050 and a Pioneer SX 650 that I made the choice of Sansui when they were both new. The Pioneer came so close that I actually think the AM reception and the extra 10 dollars is what made me lean toward the Sansui. I always liked the SX-X50 range of receivers. It will come out nice!

My eyes are starting to cross...guess its time to call it a night...Bill, I replaced an Omron relay on my buddy's Sansui G-8700DB. I've been hooked ever since. Pioneer for me are my faves.

I think I will look for an SX-650 to round out my collection. I had an SX-780, gave it away before I found the love in it. I am very lean on Pioneer equipment as the collection goes. I do remember back in 1978, spending an enormous amount of money on a KPH-9000-GM-40 car audio set (preamp/tuner-poweramp) and it was the cats meow back then. (more than 400US for that time, w/o speakers)

Looks like it's mostly a cleanup job? In that case it was a bargain, just put on some tunes and clean away.

Bill, I have always been into music. Started hanging around car audio install shops when I was 17. I always had a square job, but kept installing car audio for friends. At 32 I landed a job managing an install shop for a local chain in New York. I always recommended Pioneer head units and components to my customers. At the time, Pioneer had the cleanest output, and user friendly controls. Guess maybe thats why I lean toward Pioneer's vintage gear. All I know now is, for the past 5 years I have been a Structural Ironworker for Local 361 and the first thing I put on when I get home is my SX-580 paired up with my Advent Heritage's... Lovin' life! :D
Madman, I was hoping the same thing, check out the record/pay input on tape 2 in pic 10...got me wonderin' :scratch2: we will see when I tear it down...

Steelman,
The 650 is a sweet receiver. I purchased one when they were new. A couple of years later I traded it at a local stereo store and within a week I kicked my butt for doing it. I went back to purchase it back and it was sold. They told me it was sold 2 days after trading it in.
About 4 years ago I inherited my dad's SX-650 that he also purchased new. It will stay with me until I'm gone. Unfortunately it needs a recap, but I will get to it someday.

Great deal there for that SX-650. I have an SX-550 that amazes me daily. Well built and sounds great. Look forward to your progress :)

Nice unit, sure liked the sound of the one I had , great FM on it . In a moment of weakness I let it go to a friend of my son who liked it's vintage sound .
A word of warning , take care when cleaning around the jumper wires.....
They break off the posts o so easy .
Also the SP-40W's are hard to find!!!

Oerets, My first receiver is a Pioneer SX-580. I picked it up on ebay for way too much. It came with the original box, all original paperwork, even the styrofoam and plastic bag that covered the unit. $91.00 plus shipping. I couldn't have been happier when I got it! It is like new! The sound is incredible!! Thanks for the warning on the jumpers...:thmbsp:

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to see on the record/play aside from a bunch of dusty crud but good luck and keep us posted.

Madman, I was referring to the rust around the DIN input...May indicate water infiltration :scratch2: Hope it's just a clean-up. Will keep you all posted with progress and pics...wish me luck :thmbsp:

Ah that's rust. Well at least it's only the DIN plug, not something that most people use, and as long as it didn't affect anything more internally like you said..
