I am going to look and listen to some Martin Logan SL 3's tomorrow. As far as shape they are in great shape (they say- no reason to doubt them ) and they have the boxes and manuals. I just wanted to see what any owners here thought of them and if $1000 is a reasonable price. Right now I have 2 stacks of HPM-100's - and Rectilinears with HPM-60's, driven by different amps. I listen to mostly rock but ahve been listening to some classical. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Always,
Happy ML owner here, currently have Summits, previously had Odysseys.
Have not heard the SL3's, In general stats need a high current amp that can drive low impedances. They also need room to breath being dipoles, at least 3 feet out from front wall. They take time to get set up right and in the optimal postion, but IMHO are well worth the effort. They are also very revealing, poor recordings will sound worse on stats, good recordings will sound better on stats. Make sure the ones your purchasing have been kept in a non-smoking environement. If you can bi-amp the speakers it's a plus but not necessary.
You can find more info here at the MLOC. This group is very knowledgable and helpful when it comes to ML speakers.

And here you can determine the age of the speakers and the panels themselves with this serial number decoder.
