Nick Reynolds died yesterday at age 75. He had been on life support for two weeks and the family decided to pull the plug.

This leaves Bob Shane as the last remaining member of The Kingston Trio. Dave Guard and recently John Stewart (who replaced Guard) have already gone.

So many guys in the 50s and 60s learned to play guitar to The Trio with just three chords. I'm one of them.

It is a sad day to see the heroes of my childhood and teen years gone.

:tears:....:tears:

Yes I'm serious.

I'm in the same boat. I loved those guys. We caught one of their last shows in the early nineties. Along with the old tunes they had some really nifty stories about the music scene and Capital records in the late 50's/early 60's. It was fun, enlightening, and sad all at the same time.

They still get quite a bit of time in my car. It's great driving music, IMNSHO.

Sad news. :tears:
I have been a loyal fan since high school.
I must have bought a copy of every LP & CDs they recorded.

75? In my mind, he'll always be a clean cut college kid with a crew cut and silly grin on his face.

Thanks Nick - for making my teenage years bearable..
RIP

One of my favorites was Once Upon A Time, all the cutting up and then the "Cut! Cut," joke.

I was sad to hear the news. I also was a fan of the group; when in college in the sixties, we formed a folk trio and used lots of Kingston trio material in our act. I had the luck to be able to meet and talk to Shane since a good friend Roger Gamble joined the group in later years. Roger has also passed away but I thank him for the chance to meet Bob.

The story I remember from Bob was that Capitol records was trying to put together some of the greatest hits material and were trying to find the lead sheets for Raspberries And Strawberries in order to print the lyrics. Capitol had a reputation for not exactly keeping track of things, including master tapes. After searching for months, they contacted Shane and told him that they had finally found the missing music. He asked if they could read them well enough. The caller said "yah it's easy to read...........it says fake the french".

Bob is not in good health and doesn't look that good. There are some recent photos on the trio's website. I don't look forward to the day none are left.
Again, thanks for letting us know. He will be well remembered!!

I remember it well. I have a Kingston Trio chord book that includes the words, "Fake the French."

I grew up listening to my father's folk records. Kingston Trio, Chad Mitchell Trio, Brothers Four, etc. Sad loss indeed.

Grew up on them myself. I think my parents had every Kingston Trio and Peter, Paul and Mary album there was at the time.

I'm gonna hang down my head.

Hate to tell ya, boys, but it was a LONG TIME AGO, back to the late '50s-early '60s...1959 was, near-as-makes-no-difference, 50 years ago...

Sad news, indeed. :tears: Another person who provided part of the 'sound track of life' that so many of us here grew up with, is gone. I remember learning to sing along to some Kingston Trio songs when I wasn't more than a few years out of diapers, and reveling in how good they sounded. I have an LP or two of theirs; think I'll dig 'em out and give 'em a spin, in memoriam.

Tempus fugit.

Omnia transeunt.

R.I.P., Nick, and thank you for the music!

Thanks to all of you for remembering Nick. Those were very good days for music. As I said before, we were lucky to have a folk group in those years and had many opportunities to meet some of the "big" folks. Many are now gone now such as Lou Gottlieb of the Limeliters, Dave Van Ronk , who shared his dressing room with us. I also met Glenn Yarborugh here in Saint louis when we were trying to peddle a song or two. It was a great time and we shouldn't forget it!!
