Blue Shadow

A friend recently bought a stack of Sony, the TA pre and power amps, this ST-5130, a TC-203SD and PS-2251. I have gotten them to clean them up and verify their operation.
Here is what I started with:

Here is the unit with the faceplate and dial removed. The two straps and small bolts hold the dial glass to the top of the black panel.

Dial glass installed

Here are the pieces that make up the faceplate, the clear glass in front of the dial glass, the holder for that glass and the faceplate. This tuner has much more to the faceplate/dial glass than many tuners or receivers I have worked with.

There are two 1"x1½" panels that hold the glass panel in the faceplate and a nut on one of the two bolts at the bottom center of the dial area. These studs are not adequately attached to the back of the faceplate, but I fixed that

The faceplate assembly is held onto the tuner with three screws into the back of the faceplate on top and three screws that attach to the tabs on the faceplate into the bottom of the tuner.

With the faceplate in place this tuner is looking much better

And with clean knobs it is looking near new, now.

The preamp was dirtier as is expected because it is handled more. The amp was as bad as the tuner. I have not looked at the TT or cassette deck, but the other pieces of electronics are shaping up nicely. They need a recap but the tuner is working just fine for now.
