Any thoughts on this R2R?
How does it stack up in the Akai line up?
I cant seem to find any specs on this particular deck.
I read somewhere that the heads are sandwiched rcd/ply.
any comments will be appreciated

Hi,
This machine does have sandwiched record/play heads. It's prone to needing electronic service more often than many others. It also is known for weak capstan motors which are difficult to get replacements for. I would get a deck which is easier to get repaired if it breaks.

Try this link: http://home.planet.nl/~oomen118/ I have two Akai's with pancake heads and I've had no problems! Its not a logic controlled deck, thats good as these have given me problems in the past - impossible to get the ic.s nowadays! If it's cheap and working should give you some pleasure!

The last thing I need is another deck prone to headaches. :bash:
I finally found some spec info and the 266D was a huge improvement over it.
I guess what sparked my interest in it was that it came with a mix of 30 7" tapes.
I did notice a couple of TDK's in the pictures.
Thanks for the input.
