your capacitors from?
Basically need 2uF/250V and a 1uF/250V. No one I can find in the Baltimore area has anything that small, or won't sell 1 of each.
The Main motor cap died couple of weeks ago. See http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=185242
Been looking around on 'net, but don't really understand differences in styles, types, etc.
I do know that I can't go UP in capacitance, but I can go UP in Voltage on the cap.
Any leads with particular items would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Larry

Won't be drop in replacements, and I'm not sure you can't go up in capacitance, but, ceiling fan caps (http://www.eceilingfans.com/capacitors_-_ceiling_fans.html) come in those sizes, with wire leads. This is just an example of sizes. Check your area for local shops.

I just bought some for my reel to reel from Newark online. Just do a search for "motor run" at their site and you will see some matches.

Problem is most all of the matches in capacitance had "DC" Voltage. I need "AC" Voltage. Or can you use a DC voltage cap in an AC circuit.
Stupid question maybe: Can you series or parallel 2-1uf to get 2uf??

You can run these on AC. You may want to look at the specific spec sheet to see what AC voltage they can handle. You can also parallel 2 1uf to get 2uf, but would only do it as a last resort.
Here is a sample of a data sheet with all the specs.

Thanks Vincei. I just ordered the caps from Mouser.

Got the caps from Mouser. 2uf 400VDC (will handle 250VAC) and 1uf 400VDC. Just got done putting them in, and tying up all the wire harnesses with wire ties.
1/2 way thru an old Glenn Miller tape my dad made in the 60's. It's a lot more stable (less W&F) and speed is dead on.
Thanks to all of you who helped in the 2-3 threads for this machine. Gonna enjoy it awhile before I dig into the Main Power caps. http://i408.photobucket.com/albums/pp168/torskdoc/Vintage%20stereo/100_0532.jpg

Cool, I have some caps waiting for my Sony. I will get them in later next week! Glad to hear it went well.
