I have a Pioneer ER-420 that will play for about ten minutes then the stations start to drift and finally loses everything AM and FM.
Anyone have any pointers?
I can not find a schematic for it. Can anyone tell me where I might find one?
Thank you
Ed

Hi & Welcome !
For me it sounds like PowerSupply failing after 10min.
When dry Filter Caps gone bad, Everything is possible.
I restore one LX-420. Its a Euro-Swiss Version with FM-AM-LM.
Under the Hood, You have the Choice .. :D

Nice 6BQ5 receiver that ER-420. Is the problem only on AM/FM or does it do this with Aux and phono inputs also?
Did you check the AK Pioneer database for a schematic?

It seems to have something to do with the tuning capacitor. After a few minutes the station creeps up the dial and you have to keep turning it up. If you play with the dial sometimes it will come back for awhile.
The axillary settings work fine.
I have tried to find the schematic at the AK Pioneer database with no luck

So that certainly sounds like the local oscillator - or more specifically - the tube in that position. Cleaning the pins on all the front end tubes would be a good first start.
That's one mightly tightly packed receiver, for sure.
Cheers,

Being as it affects both AM & FM then is something common to both. I believe that both AM & FM feed into the 6BA6 & 6AU6 tube section, so checking those tubes first might be a good place to start, otherwise maybe one of the components or voltage supply in that section of the tuner.
If that PM request from Darko was to get you a schematic, then great and good luck with the fix.

Hello T.B. - Yes, thats was for the Schematics for a similar LX-420A.
I would first check the Power Supply Section, then the grey ELNA Lytics.

The LX, is not on the Bench, for now .. :D
If we have to compare Voltages, or exchange Pic's, let me know.
The Baby is in the House, I think..

Darko,
i seem to have the same problem on an ER-420 I recently bought; everything works perfectly (Aux, phono), but the FM seems to drift after some 10 minutes; i think the problem is in the FM front end unit; do you happen to have a schematic from this section?
Thanks
Claus
