Hi guys,

Just got my hands on an Audiolab 8000A - a nice little amp in my opinion and often going for peanuts here in sweden :thmbsp:! The "problem" is that it takes about 10 seconds (or even 11-12!) before the protection relay clicks on after hitting the power button. Is that normal normal for this amp? If not, will it get even worse? Should I keep it switched on? When powered up it sounds as sweet as expected though!

I've owned many vintage amps, but never experienced more than a few (3-5) seconds delay (or sometimes they have not powered up at all - when the relay has been faulty or having contact problem due to dust etc)

I would be happy as a herring if anyone can give me some feedback in this matter!

cheers, Erik (stockholm, sweden)

I owned that very same amp some 12 years ago. I canīt quite recall how long it took for the relay to click on, but I believe you shouldnīt be worried about a 10 / 12 second delay. Ten seconds is considered quite normal for all circuits to stabilize.

My beard ( tube ) pre-amp takes over 2 minutes to warm up and settle down.

Thanks for replying. Was a bit worried the delay being a symptom of the old amp beginning to "run out of steam", but nice to hear the power up time could be considered pretty normal! Valeu Hifi nut! /Erik
