I have an SX-1980 Pioneer receiver and recently bought an SG-9800 equalizer to add to the system.
Question: What connections do I use to hook it up to the 1980?
Do I connect it where the pre-amp and amp connections are?
No way am I just going to guess, so I'm here to seek some good advice!
Thanks!

I have the SG-9800 with an SX-980. I have it connected at the pre-amp and amp connections. Works great.

If you put it between the pre and amp connections, it is always in the circuit even though you can bypass the unit, you are still sending the signal out and back.
Since the SX-1980 has an adapter input which is selectable, if this one is not in use, I'd use it. That way you can completely remove it from the circuit. I don't think the SX-980 has that feature.
It can also be connected in one of the tape loops. This would be a little more interesting to use the eq when listening to a tape, requiring the use of the tape copy switches when almost no one has ever used these switches. If you do it this way, into a tape loop, and want to find out how to use the eq effectively, post back and you will get some answers.

Or you can connect through the tape in and tape out on the back of your 1980 as well.
EDIT: Blue Shadow beat me to it.

Exactly the info I needed...thanks!! Got to get it connected today. I just wanted to be sure, so I don't risk damaging something.
