My brother is in town for a visit. He casually hands me a heavy cardboard box out of his Expedition. I ask "what's this". He says "an old friend. Be sitting down when you open it."

So I open it up, and it is a long, lost box of my LPs. He found it in a closet at my mom's old house (now his house). Some of it is in good condition, some of it is suspect (I'll have to clean it well and hope for the best). But none-the-less, a small piece of my youth has been returned to me.

I took the time to type them out. Here's what he brought me:

Alice Cooper -- Greatest Hits
Average White Band -- Feel No Fret
BB King -- Completely Well
Blondie -- Eat to the Beat
Bruce Springsteen -- Born In the USA
Buck Owens -- 20 Greatest Hits
Chuck Mangione -- Fun & Games
Crazy Horse -- S/T
Crosby, Stills & Nash -- S/T
Duane & Greg Allman -- S/T
Edgar Winter Group -- They Only Come Out At Night
Elton John -- Blue Moves
Elton John -- S/T
Ernest Tubb -- The Country Hall of Fame
Ernest Tubb & His Texas Troubadours -- Golden Favorites
Gary Wright -- Spooky Tooth
George Carlin -- Class Clown
Gerry Rafferty -- City To City
Jethro Tull -- Aqualung
Jim Croce -- The Jim Croce Collection
Jimi Hendrix -- La Grande Storia del Rock
Johnny Cash -- Man In Black
Johnny Cash -- I Walk The Line (Pickwick Records version)
Johnny Cash -- I Walk The Line (Columbia Records version)
Johnny Cash -- Johnny Cash At San Quentin
Johnny Cash -- Johnny Cash At Folsom Prison
Johnny Cash -- The Johnny Cash Collection - Greatest Hits Vol. 2
Leon Russell -- Leon Live (another triple LP)
Maria Muldaur -- S/T
Marty Robbins -- All Time Greatest Hits
Merle Haggard & the Strangers -- I'm a Lonesome Fugitive
Mike Harrison -- Rainbow Rider
Neil Young -- Hawks & Doves
Nils Lofgren -- Night After Night
Outlaws -- In The Eye of the Storm
Poco -- Picking Up The Pieces
Randy Newman -- Good Old Boys
The Allman Brothers Band -- Brothers of the Road
The Beach Boys -- Forever
The Cars -- Panorama
The Moody Blues -- Long Distance Voyager
The Music People -- 40 different artists (a triple LP)
The Rolling Stones -- Sticky Fingers (with the zipper on the cover)
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers -- You're Gonna Get It
Waylon Jennings -- I've Always Been Crazy

The Music People triple LP has 40 different artists, including Santana, Taj Mahal, Bob Dylan, Johnny Winter, Jeff Beck Group, Mahavishnu Orch., Blue Oyster Cult, Blood Sweed & Tears, Box Scaggs, Dr. Hook, Ten Years After, Edgar Winter's White Trash, The Birds, and New Riders of the Purple Sage.

The Crazy Horse LP includes Ralp Molina, Billy Talbott, Nils Lofgren, and Ry Cooder.

The Maria Muldaur LP includes guests Ry Cooder and David Grisman among others.

The Average White Band has a young Luther Vandross providing background vocals.

Duane and Greg Allman is a 1972 release on Bold Records.

And the George Carlin LP has the following "tracks": Class Clown, Wasted Time, Values, I Used To Be Irish Catholic, The Confessional, Special Dispensation, Heavy Mysteries, Muhammad Ali America The Beautiful, and Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television.

Needless to say, I'm grateful and excited. I'll need a new stylus after this batch. I remember all but a couple of these.

Sounds like you've got a way cool bro there.

And they do bring back memories for me too. I've been fortunate to acquire some of those LPs again in the last few years of re-collecting and you certainly have the best of the best there.

In my case, way back in the late 70's, my brother gave me some LPs from his youth, including Rolling Stones, Hendrix, Bowie (I would sell my soul for a pristine collection of Bowie), etc. Now long since gone with my move to CD in the 80's. Bloody fool, me.

Anyway, have fun!

I suspect my brother and sister-in-law have a crate or two of mine. Just seems that I'm missing some things I think I remember having once upon a time.
They wouldn't be using them.

Unfortunately, the ex has several crates of mine, and I know I won't be getting any of em back............

:uzi: :dammit: :bash:

On a positive note, I realized after a year or two that if ya had stuff you really liked, and lost it, you can almost always get it again.

These would have been stacked away for at least 15 years. My tastes were eclectic, or mebbe 'wierd' would be a better word. I often found stuff I didn't know I had. Kinda still that way.
Like, I wonder where my Charley Musselwhite albums have got to.
