Hey guys, new to the forum.
I picked up theis Sansui SR-636 at the Salvation Army for $15 the other day, and have an issue. All seems to work fine. Currently has an Audio Tecnica AT13E cartridge, however the stylus is broken.
The question:
Should I get an entire new cartridge for the unit, or just replace the stylus?
If I get a new cartridge, I'd like to stay below $75, what would work well with this table? I tend to listen to classic rock, jazz and Tchaikovski.
As for a new stylus, I'm having some difficulty finding the proper one.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Here's your best price for the original stylus. Look down the page for the ATS13. The ATS14 right below it would an upgrade to the Shibata (line contact) stylus.

Even with the elliptical stylus it's an excellent cartridge and worth using.

Excellent!
After looking at the pictures, and removing my cartridge from the tt, I have determined I have the AT13Ea. Before I order a new stylus, I want to make sure it is still desirable to have. Of course it would be either the ATN13 or ATN14 right?
Thanks again!

Nice looking TT. The Ea is a good cartridge. Get a stylus and play it a while. Once you are sure you like the TT and are happy with features and basic performance, you can think about an upgrade. But you will be starting from a decent place, so an upgrade will likely be well over $100.

Really nice 636. One of my favorite lower priced DDs out of Japan. I'm a little biased, I have a 838. The arm looks the same. Make sure you set the anti-skating properly. You could put a much more expensive cart in that arm quite comfortably....

Yes, equally desirable. Correct on both counts.:thmbsp:

Cool beans. I ordered an ATN13. Should be here in a couple days or so! Can't wait to hear this thing. Should be gobs better than this Sony TT I picked up at Best Buy 5 years ago...
