I've heard there is come kind of clip or converter that acts like a binding post that connects to the screw terminals on the barrier strip on older amps. What exactly is this called & where can a person find them?

Search the bay for McIntosh banana.

I've always wondered this myself, someday looking to try a pair of vintage mc30's etc, great to know these are out there, right on :thmbsp:

Search the bay for McIntosh banana.
Yep, those are them. I have a set of them and they're pretty slick.

if you're looking to save/use those expensive speaker cable terminations:

1.) My own brilliant solution

2.) The 'Outpost', a different approach from Prelude Audio.

I'm gonna pull the trigger and finally get the MC2205 I have been lusting after for several months. I plan on running it through my MA 6200 as the pre since I contemplated getting a dedicated pre, but the MA6200 has basically the same specs as the c32 (same signal to noise ratio), hence anything other than a C30 or C33 would be a step down (and I don't have the cash to blow on a C30 or C33 after buying the 2205). The speaker terminals on my Ma6200 are pins for which I am using Audioquest type-4 cables into Monster flex-pin adapters. The terminals on the back of the 2205 are regular spades (for bare wire), so how can I connect the Type-4's to the 2205? I saw that there are people on ebay (in Hong Kong) that sell spade to banana adapters, but does anyone here have any experience with the fit/quality/reliability of the seller of these? Is there another alternative as I really don't feel like ordering more expensive cables right now (thinking of bi-wiring down the line, but may run into the same problem).

Thanks,

James R.

By spades do you mean barrier strip connections? All my Mac amplifiers are this style and the "fork connectors" on ebay will work for your application. Seeing your AQ cable have pin terminations you will most likley need to reterminate them to use with the fork style connectors.
Your other option is to remove the pin terminators clean up the conductors and solder each of the three conductor ends together so you can insert them directly into the positive and negative barrier strip posts. This would be the purist way and also when your ready to do a more permanent application with bi-amping you're all set to install whatever terminator that will work for you.
The pins may work as is but with such a heavy cable they may break off from the weight and angle of the connection being made.

My AQ cables are banana on both ends. I have the flex pin adapters (which by being flexi, avoid the stress on the weight as it will pop off if stressed) by Monster that simply slip onto the bananas and allow me to put the pins in the MA6200. So in essence, my AQ cables are Banana to Banana. Is there a US distributor of these fork adaptors or do I need to order from the bay (I hate ebay).

I have seen them on A-gon. You may want to call Audioclassics I know they have a few options but im not sure if they have the fork style. Someone will chime in where they are availabe. quite a few members are using them

Are you looking for ONIX-70022, G-Fork spade, from Parts Connexion?

I have two 2205's, a 2125, and a 2120 and I bought these spade to banana connectors from a Hong Kong seller 2 or 3 years ago, and they are wonderful! :tresbon::tresbon::tresbon::tresbon::tresbon:

I've had no problems with them - They were a tight fit when I was attaching them to the terminals on the back of the amps, but I can now use speaker cables with banana plug terminations for for both the back of my amps and the backs of my speakers.:banana::banana::banana::banana:

I don't remember the name of the seller. I do remember I emailed him and asked for a discount and combined shipping because I was going to buy 24 of these connectors (I wanted some extras, just in case) and he was very accommodating and worked with me.

I no longer have his eBay name, but my experience with these connectors is good.

If you do a search on Ebay (US) under electronics type in mcintosh there is an auction in S. Califironia for a set of four at 9.95 ithink he has a few sets

Check out Parts Connexion first.

If you are not going to support an AK vendor directly, at least make sure that you go to ebay through the banner link, so that AK can get the referral dollars.

I use the eBay terminals on lots of amps, they are very handy, especially as a conversion to banana jacks for quick change.

I posted this today:

I used the fork terminals that Terry likes, but I think bre's dad was looking for the Outposts from PreludeAudio.

Nice work,

Here's another solution that works. A simple bannana post and a spade connector. Very simple and effective.

Somehow we ended up with 3 threads on McIntosh speaker terminals today. I merged the threads to put all this info in one place.

I have mine from eBay as well.
They work fine on my MC250.
