"The String Bean"? "The Specific Is Terrific"?
Maybe you could integrate them into some sort of mid-century decor scheme, but other than that, they're totally worthless.

I wouldn't toss them. I'm pretty surprised at what things will sell for on that auction site sometimes. Some people are into really weird niches. Some even collect old LP's! :D

Probably the wrong group to ask. There are film collectors and they'd be who I'd search out for. A couple of years ago I mentioned that my family had owned a hotel with a movie threatre and one of the test films was the government film issued to advertise the new Social Security system that had just become law. I used the film to test the projectors and sound system. There were several other government issued films on the New Deal and other depression initiatives. I must have had a dozen or more e-mails asking if I still had the films and where the hotel is. Sadly the hotel burnt down to the ground years ago and all was lost including the films and decades of original film posters that were still in original shipping wrappers. They'd never seen the light of day.

This is a very valid point.

Bearvintage -- weird smell equals vinegar syndrome. If you plan to offer these on eBay be sure and state which ones (or all) have the weird smell. It will save you many headaches from film collectors asking or winning and taking you to the cleaners for not stating that there is a weird smell. Some portions of that collectors field think that vinegar syndrome is curable with proper cleaning others do not. On the whole, it might not be worth your time to clean these films.

Film can be quite valuable. It depends on what it is. People telling this person that film is worthless need to be quite. Unless they know that these particular reels are worthless. Do you posters? Although these particular films may not be worth anything. I am always amazed at the advice/info thrown around on the net. Be weary of any of it.

I used to collect 16mm film and have friends that are collectors. I used to go to shows where they sold films. The educational stuff is worthless. They were selling them for $1.00 a reel and less at the conventions. The market is flooded with that stuff from libraries and schools dumping their films. If you don't see titles from actual movies on the cans or on the leaders of the films, they are not worth much. If they smell of vinegar, the film is decomposing and totally worthless. You can inhibit the deterioration by soaking the film in Vitafilm, but nothing will stop the film from going bad once you smell vinegar. No collector will buy a film that smells of vinegar.

Hi all ok this is the deal i have a old 16mm movie projector in in garage for years storage so 3 days ago i went to the store (Walgreen) right behind there a store so i see one guy trow in this away and i ask why he say the think nobody would buy them that why they trow away i check and all say San Diego city schools instructional media center
there a few Shakespeare theater movies and the specific terrific and more,i search online what is is photogard and is like coating protection i think is where this weird smell coming from I'm not fan of reel reel because my age is less than 27 and of course i love vintage stuff but not tootoo vintage like this 16mm reels so that's why I'm gonna sell this stuff with my projector maybe they don't have any value or maybe the real collector will pay what he think is worth for example if i take a fisher 400CX with my friend and i ask him how much you offer me for this he probable will say nothing is not valuable for me but what about if i put right here on AK classified to make a offer i think i will receive many email well see what happend.
