Although my avatar is of the great Art Blakey, Elvin is another one of my biggest influences in playing the drums. I got the chance to see him live a few times and sit about 15 feet away from him at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival held in Moscow, ID for 4 straight nights. Even in his mid to late 70's he was playing drums like no one I have ever seen before and with him dies a style and a finesse which is still unmatched in the drumming world. So, I dedicate this thread to him.

Anybody remember his role as the bad guy in Zachariah ? I have a tape of it back in FL, but it's been several years since I watched it. What was the character's name, Jube Cain, or something like that? Helluva drummer.

My all-time favorite, and I am deeply saddened. Dug out Elvin's New Agenda and am playing his version of Trane's gorgeous Naima as I post this.
