View Full Version : Pioneer SX-1500T
mhardy6647 05-21-2004, 01:31 PM Earler this week I was given an old Pioneer ss receiver, model SX-1500T, complete with walnut cabinet, in very good physical condition. Got to try it last night and confirmed that it works (and the controls need to be cleaned). Based on the cosmetics and the "IC" badge proudly emblazoned on the front, I am guessing that this is from the late 1960's. A Google search didn't turn up much information. There is a completed auction on eBAY with one (from which I have 'borrowed' a photo).
Anyone here know anything about this model or the model line-up from whence it came?
Thanks as always for your attention!

Looks similar to the 1000TW I picked up the other day and the 1500TD but with different knobs like the 1000TW. Probably a cross between them or a 1500TD with a wooden cabinet. Mine needs a new pair of outputs on one channel, so when they arrive and I finish it up I will let everyone know how well it performs. This is probably somewhere in this line from the early 70s. Probably somewhere around 50-58wpc which is the ratings of these.
crooner 05-21-2004, 06:04 PM Nice score! That Pioneer was their TOTL for that time period. I have the original review by Len Feldman (Audio Magazine). He had high praise for it, specially it's unusually wide bandwidth.

crooner 05-21-2004, 06:11 PM Here's a pic of a SX-1500T ad from the March 1969 issue of Audio.
These receivers cost $360 in pre oil-crisis dollars!
Interesting to note that the unit was mainly rated using the old IHF music power standard, hence the 170 watts advertised on the ad. FTC approved ratings for amplifiers were still a few years in the future, and only Marantz and McIntosh advertised their power in sinewave or RMS per channel, both channels operating.

Pebody 06-12-2005, 05:43 PM I bought a Pioneer SX-1500T when I was 13, It worked till I was 17 then a CAP took a dump, got it fixed then joined the Navy. I am now 35 and it still works like a champ. I did acuire the User manual and schematics from a great service tech at Pioneer. This unit when new boasts power as:
Music Power (peak) 4 Ohms @170W/ 8 Ohms @ 140W
RMS Rated Power 4 Ohms @ 60W/ 8 Ohms @ 55W
Freq Response +/- 1dB, from 20Hz to 70kHz (over-all)
Harmonic Distortion < .5% @ 1kHz @ RMS output
Power Bandwidth 15Hz-70kHz (AUX)
Hum & Noise (@ RMS output) Tape Head: better than 75dB/ MAG: better than 80dB/ AUX: better than 90dB
I also have the input Impedance then a Damping Factor
Equalization: of all inputs and the cut/boost of each tone controle
the Loudness conture gives boosts of 12dB @50Hz,6.5dB @10kHz, with volume controle set @ -40dB.
there is more, much more. e-mail me if you have questions.
FYI this thing has successfully powered 2 12" Kustom stage monitors with 2 15" EV/Carvin Bass Horns, albeit the unit did have dimming lamps when the bass hit. I am currently going to build several of the amps for a 7.1 surround system. this is the best thing that happened to me when I was young.
have fun listening.
Donny 06-12-2005, 07:36 PM I have one of these myself and it's a surprising little unit! Thanks for the info Pebody :)
patrickez 10-24-2006, 09:14 PM To All,
I'm in need of a decent repair manual for a pioneer SX1500 T. Can anyone help me find one? I'm fixing a unit of my brothers and I need to know how to adjust the potentiometers for the output transistors. I tried ManualsOnPDF.com, but they only had one for the TD model which was different.
Thanks!
pioneernut 10-24-2006, 09:19 PM I've got one if you looking, its in a PDF file. PM with an email and I can email it to you. Its not a real good scan, but maybe it might help. Besides its free?
If that doesn't work you might inquire with the guy that runs http://www.stereomanuals.com He got me an execellent reproduction of a service manual a few months ago.

geespot 10-24-2006, 09:26 PM I have the the (2)300T, (2)700T, (2)1000Ta, 1000TW, 1500T. All are similar in the dial glass, lettering, knobs and switches but differ in the face itself.
the interesting thing about the 1000Ta, it has a tube in the tuner stage.
