Has anyone given a listen to this one yet?

The Subdudes ~ Miracle Mule

"Led by singer/guitarist Tommy Malone and accordionist John Magnie, the Subdudes draw most of their inspiration from the sounds of their native New Orleans, blending blues, gospel, funk, and R&B with their own harmony vocals; their sound is also notable for the band's substitution of a tambourine player for a drummer. The band came together after backing artists such as Joni Mitchell and Roseanne Cash and recorded its debut in 1990, which, like its subsequent albums (including 1991's Lucky, 1996's Primitive Streak and 1997's Live at Last), featured a mix of covers and originals. After an eigh-year sabbatical, the Subdudes joined Bob Dylan guitarist Freddy Koella to produce Miracle Mule in spring 2004."

Thoughts, opinions?

Haven't heard the new one, but I have all their other studio stuff. Long time favorites. Glad to see they got back together.

Their "Annunciation" is on my most-played list. Didn't know they had a new one - guess it goes on my "get" list...

Well by the time I got down there they were sold out. Pretty unusual for Wal-Mart to have anything outside the mainstream pop/rock/country stuff, so I guess everyone scarfed it up. Oh well :sigh:

I have or used to have Annunciation as well. I like the Subdudes OK and would like to check out their newest. Along these lines, I like some of the Radiators, another band of similar tradition but sounding more like Little Feat.

Tommy Malone is the brother of the Radiators frontman Dave Malone. I like the Rads a lot. But I guess that is what happens when you attend Tulane U. Lot's off free downloads of the Rads (and a whole bunch of other bands) at www.archive.org. I highly recommend the show at the Tulane Quad from 1984.
