Hey all,
It's been a while since I have been on the site. Getting ready for retierment from the Marine Corps , so I have been pretty busy! Any way, I need some advise. I was thinking of installing an IB sub in the attic of my media room when I noticed that there is not enough room in the more desirable places for subs. The question here is this, can I install a single 12" sub flush mounted to the wall directly facing the seating area to get the desierd affect. I am looking at some newer pioneer vehicle subs that are 3 1/4" deep, so they would fit inside the drywall. I just don't know if that makes for a good setup. I was going to drive it with my pioneer Elite M72. Any help here would be appreciated.

Pretty awsome. Have you seen this in action? The pioneers look like this but obviously they are not designed for home theater. Thanks for the insight, got to go have dinner, so later.

Actually yes, they are surprisingly good.

IB subs don't have to fire directly into the room, as you may or may not know.
If you can build some sort of manifold onto which to mount the drivers, then port the manifold into the room, that works too.
However, for good IB, I think you generally need at least a couple good sized woofers with the proper T/S parameters for IB.
Dunno your budget, but I'm pretty sure those JL subs run about four hundred thousand pennies more than what you were previously considering. ;)
Mentioning your budget usually helps the recommendations.

Thanks for all the info! I guess you can say that I am on a poor mans budget right now. I am not looking to rock the house, just the viewing area. I think I can build something like the JL's, I am pretty good at building things so it should'nt be a prob. The only thing I need to consider is how the box is ported internally.

Another approach, I've used this a couple of times with decent results.

This would be good but I do not have a sub floor nor do I have adequate attic space.

In wall subs are great as long as 'yours' doesn't mind hearing thumping sounds while reading or sleeping. In walls transmit the bass everywhere and it doesn't make a nice bed partner with your SO. In addition the wall does not lend itself to great reproduction as it is far too dependent on the wall, its construction, the size and numerous other variables. Subs can be placed almost anywhere providing the Xover is low enough like 60HZ.

I don't think I'll have too much of a problem. I would only listen to them while all are out not to mention that the wall is not adjacent to any other room where people would be around. I'm still toying with it and posted some stuff in the speaker forum. I'm starting tomorrow. Let's hope they turn out.
