This is the official sign-up thread for the 2008 AK Secret Santa.

Secret Santa time is here again.

One of Audiokarma’s long-standing traditions is the annual Secret Santa. It is great fun, and a cool way to celebrate the holidays.

You sign up for this event, by posting to THIS THREAD ONLY. This thread will remain open until November 21st, at 9 pm, EST. Please send me an email, with the words SECRET SANTA as the subject, containing your actual name and mailing address and your AK username, to luvvinvinyl@audiokarma.org. After the thread closes, I will send everyone the name and address of their intended recipient.

The limit this year is $35, not including shipping. Please allow enough time for your gift to reach its destination by December 18th. Remember that your Secret Santa gift may have to travel to another country.

Gifts may be audio-related, but need not be so. Half the fun is reading the posts of your recipient, and picking out something special for them.

You can read about past Secret Santas in the threads in this forum. Join us in the AK holiday spirit.

All ready ? Time sure flew by this year !

Count me in.

Need to point some thing out to everyone before they add their names to this list.

We do not appreciate harassing people to get them to send out their SS gifts. We at Audiokarma love this annual tradition that Tim started years ago.
It loses a lot if you do not follow through on what you have committed to.

Please make sure you send out your gifts in a timely manor. If you have any doubt in your mind that you will not be able to meet this requirement please do not sign up

Thank you
Grumpy

I basically new here, however Ernie knows me. I sold him his first turntable (or at least had a part in it) , a Dual 1218 with a rare aluminum plinth. Told him that it could play upside down and guess what, that was the first thing he did when he got it home.
Hopefully, I do not get his name as I know he will try and do something weird with it.

luvvinvinyl
11-24-2008, 07:36 PM
And it did. I hated watching that table land at the bottom of the stairs. It seemed to fall in slow motion. The auto mechanisms didn't mind the fall, but didn't care much care for the sudden stop at the bottom. That was several turntables ago, but, strangely, not that many years ago.

Everybody should have their target name. If you REALLY want to keep your identity secret, use a little creativity, and get the help of one of Santa's elves. You'd be surprised what you can do, if you try.

Fear not. Have a look at the mod staff, and see how many of us are Canadian. After all, it's a pretty poor existence if we can't poke fun at ourselves once in a while.

That said, there is still good reason for some trepidation, at Secret Santa time. You just never know what may come your way.

Dennydog, my wife calls her socks, like the ones you pictured, 'toe socks'.

BTW, is there some reason why, in spite of the fact that the whole of Minnesota is well north of David (Vintageman1) and me, Minnesotans insist on referring to their relative location as 'down here'?:scratch2:

Minnesotans insist on referring to their relative location as 'down here'?A good fact for a bar bet would be that there are parts of Canada farther to the south than parts of California! Another good bar bet out these ways would be that Reno, Nevada is farther to the west than San Diego, California.

But a map would confirm both statements!

You know you are talking to a Minnesotan if you hear them say they are "going up north to go fishing". I guess there aren't any lakes south of where anyone in the state lives. I'm sure everyone that lives in this state knows what I mean when I say that.

Great, cuz I can do that after the surgery and still get it there by the 18th or pretty darn close. I was pretty sure I wouldn't be the only one doing that... if so, I would have just blown my cover.

Pretty radical way to deal with a pain in the neck..Hope everything goes well..:D

I'm going to be my usual self and be late at getting things done,
so if you don't have a gift by the 18th, guess that pretty much
narrows down who your Secret Santa is! :D

Rest assure, it will be there before Christmas... 2009. :D :thmbsp:

Took quite a while to decide on what my recipient was going to get and then it took considerable time to track something down.

However, the deed is done and will ship soon. Just waiting for confirmation. Hmmm, now to consider adding a little extra. :scratch2:

Just to let my SS know, I received 2 packages from Amazon.com early last week. My wife couldn't figure out what we ordered until I noticed it had "mech986" as part of the name.

They're under the non-existant tree right now (will be doing some work upstairs this week so have to keep the Living room clear), will open on the 18th - love the anticipation!

Thanks SS, whomever you are.

That last pieces of the puzzle have now been found, solved and on their way.

Let's see if they can figure out this clue. They should allow my victim, er, recipient to dance in comfort all year round...:music:

Hopefully, the bad weather around the US won't keep Santa's Postal helpers from their appointed rounds.

We should all applaud the USPS, UPS, and FedEx along with some AK elves for helping all of us get our SS booty out in a timely manner. Without them, we just wouldn't be having all this fun!!

My SS was incredibly kind to me this year. Aside from a wonderful collection of cd's that I hope to have enough time to listen to over the holidays, I also got about the most beautiful record clamp I have ever seen.
