Accidentally posted this in another thread. Sorry about that!

Well, some fellow high school teachers, who love the Blues, went to Skippers Smokehouse, just north of Tampa, about a year ago to enjoy the agile fingers of Sonny's slide guitar. I tried to capture the flavor of Skippers, one of the best venues for live music in Tampa Bay.

The video was recorded without sound, which I dubbed in later from his Grant Street CD. I don't think that's cheating (?). Sure would be boring without sound!

It's my first entry on Youtube. You can also see the basic construction of my ManShun. And a trip to the Rolex24 last Feb.

I hope you enjoy at least a small piece of what I offer.

Nice Video . . . Sonny Smokes . . . Mancave is awesome . . . If I had one I'd have complete control over the remote control! I used to have a basement in Chicago that used to be my cave . . . but now I'm in the great room . . . shaking the walls with all my gear! Good job, Bob in Mesa, AZ

If you read my DVD thread post you'll see me mention Deepest End by Gov't Mule. Sonny Landreth is on that too. I've been wanting to see him live for some time.

Skippers draws a lot of good groups, check out JJ Grey and Mofro sometime, they play there all the time (from Jacksonville FL).

He's definitely worth listening to :music:. Glad to help! He's not on my regular diet, but when you need a Sonny fix, he's the best at what he does. A unique player for sure.

Thank you, Centralflori. I tried to update the ManCave vid but for some reason Youtube shows some kind of error with the upload. I'll try again tonite. The re-do is an improvement with more explanations and updated pix.

I have the Deepest End CD/DVD but can't get into it. Guess I gotta get into the right state of mind. I've had the set for a couple of years. I don't know what it is, just doesn't do it. Not a bad CD, but doesn't have the dynamics I seek.

Have you been to Skippers? I see you're in Wi so it would be a long road trip! Got relatives here? Just curious.

I appreciate it, Bob. But tell me; what's so Great about a Great Room if it isn't so Great? :D Just a joke. You'll get your space back after the family can't take it no more.

I've seen Sonny live, many times. He lives not too far from where I reside...

Excellent talent, great guy.

Nice work on the video...

That's an interesting site, and some great photos. I added it to my 'favorites' so I can get into it later. Thanks!

No, have not been to Skippers. I've been to a place in Jacksonville, can't think of the name of it, Free Bird Cafe?

I've been to Revolution in Ft Lauderdale.

I was on two "Jam Cruises", and they usually have pre and post shows.

Yes, Free Bird, down at the beach- it's owned by one of the dead Lynyrd Skynyrd's former wife, I think. Never been there myself- they've had a few performers that I was almost willing to leave the house for, but not often.

I scan Skipper's upcoming show schedule occasionally- never been there either, but seems they consistently book people I'd like to see, and my kids live in the Tampa area, so I get down there every now and then.

Toze Alert! Toze Alert! :guitar::yikes:

If you're ever in the area give me a PM if you care to. It would be cool to buy you a beer at Skippers.

I noticed that Alejandro Escovedo is playing there on 1/20- I'd really like to see him.

Interesting thanks for the background. It's really a nice set-up. They have a second floor outdoor balcony that goes around 3 sides of the building. Nice to get some fresh air if it's crowded inside, and still be able to hear the music.
