Hello everyone!I am somewhat of a "new guy" here.First of all this is a great site!I have been hiding in the bushes for a while now so here is my first post.Just picked up a Pioneer SX-5580 from a Garage sale today for $25.The lady I bought it from said they had bought it in Germany.Does anyone have any specs on this.It kind of looks like a 1250 but I can't seem to find anything about it.It has the black sides and face.It is minty.I figure someone here must know.Any help would be appreciated.

these units are very hard to find stateside so look after her, have her sorted out if she needs it as the price on these are going up as we speak....congrats on you rare find..you know these look the nuts if you can get a mint walnut case for her from a knackerd but mint 1050.....but keep the original black vinyl case if you ever need to sell/upgrade later...

good luck mate rgds larry ( uk )

Nice find!

I have a Pioneer SX-5560 that looks very similar to yours. This isnt mine but it looks the same.

It has been playing all afternoon and sounds great. There is not even a hint of scratchiness out of her.Very clean! So let me get this straight,
SX-1250/SX-5590
SX-1050/SX-5580
SX-950/SX-5560

Does that sound about right?

Thats one nice receiver, great score! How come vintage receivers look so darn nice in black? Maybe its the silver knobs or something. Welcome to the few, the proud, the owners of vintage black faced receivers. It is certainly not so easy to find anything vintage and black in color you can have one if you want to spend top dollar on ebay. My Sansui 990DB came to me by dumb luck but you rarely see any of this stuff, but when you do, darn does it ever look nice!

The SX-1050/5580 is one of the very best non-TOTL receivers out there. I know, I had a 1050 and 5590-- very similar at any volume I played them. I'm very much a xx50/55xx series guy, too.

Enjoy the big guy!

Just a quick note - the SX-5560 is, visually, identical to an SX-750, not an SX-850. Maybe the spec's are similar but if you are looking at front panels, the 750 and 5560 faceplates match perfectly. Just thought I'd throw that in for clarification. These forums are terrific but I'm not getting anything accomplished! Thanks - - BB

I have the following in the Pioneer database:

SX-5530 ⇔ SX-535
SX-5560 ⇔ SX-750
SX-5570 ⇔ SX-950
SX-5580 ⇔ SX-1050
SX-5590 ⇔ SX-1250
SX-7730 ⇔ SX-737
SX-9930 ⇔ SX-939

I believe AK member Steve Gibson has a complete set.

TOTL=Top OF The Line...also known as "cream of the crop" or "it don't get any better"
