Installed a new sound system in the Miata. This rig is night and day different. I can now listen to music at freeway speeds with the top down. Just need some more bottom end, so sub's going in the trunk.

WW,
Nice job! I like the headrest speakers, they make a lot of sense in a convertible.
It's almost time to replace the SOs' car, and since I can't talk her into a Ram Air Firebird :( I've been considering a Miata.
So a million questions: How do you like it? Reliable? How's the shifter linkage feel?
I've owned these: Triumph TR7, Fiat X-1/9, Mazda RX-7. Does it really stack up fun wise to these kind of cars? I've heard it described as similar to a MGB that actually keeps running.
Any input appreciated!
Pete
PS Be sure to post about the BassLink - I've been considering it for the Grand Marquis!
I didn't know you have a Miata, I have always wanted one they look like loads of fun to drive! ;)

The Miata is a very fun car. My wife calls it "zippy" and it is. You get a real sport car (in a rally sort of way) with the short throw shifter, extremely responsive steering and low center of gravity. Will it hold up to a big block V8, no but has good power in the 4k-6K rpm range. For us it is a play car, something to take fun drives in on the weekends. It helps that upkeep is cheap and these things run forever.

I had an '89 MX-5 1.6 manual/no ps.
Very reliable.
Superb gear shift/ linkage.
Only other affordable sports car that can beat it for shift feel is the Honda S2000.

The MX-5 is light years ahead of all of those put together.
Purists complain that the Mazda is nothing more than a copy of the classics.
Truth of the matter is the MX-5 is one of the few sports cars that really is sporting with the bonus of being painless to own.

Friend of mine owns a zippy little car, a '72 Datsun 510, 4 wheel independant suspension, 5-spd, 2000cc. Lime green and fun!
