I am trying to give my 1050 a Craig lube job. The problem is it seems I can't easily get to the pot's and switches without removing the tuner and more!

Is there an easy way to get around? Your inputs are very appreciated.

Here are the pics to show top, front, and bottom of the beast.

Turn it upside down, take the bottom off, take the switch assemblys out carefully from the bottom and there you go. . . PATIENCE. . . remove screws from the front panel and you can work them back and out then let them lay over enough to get at them. . . You can squirt in through the front on the knife switches. . . REMEMBER PATIENCE here. Dont get in a hurry. . .Use your head. . . Dont do anything that is not clear to you. . .

gyusher ,

You are the vintage Pioneer king! :D Many thanks .... I'll try that this afternoon.

Just use your head and take your time. . . There are times when you think this is impossible. . . dont rush it or force it. . . You will find the right angle and it will slip back just far enough to lay it over carefully, you might have to lift a few wires up from their holder but I have done a hundred this way 850/1050/1250s granted the 850s are a little easier. . .

I took the module out from the chassis by removing the screws. Not that hard once I know what is supposed to be done. I even took the volume control pot out of the PCB, removed the screws that put it together and relubed it internally. Thanks again.

Treat her right now. . .Sounds like a stiff power switch. . .

I will wait another 48hrs before tunring it on. In the mean time I am doing the lube job on my other SX3900. It is fun doing little project like this.

I dont recomend this but I have turned on many imediatly after I get them buttoned up. . . Now I wait overnight to button them up then after I get them back together I put the power to them. I have not had one incident. . . . Lucky I guess. . . But I dont get carried away with the cleaner and lube either. I have turned them on with oil running out the case in the early days. . . Not now. . .

The right channel of the 1050 has a weird sound, like someone tapping on microphone and with scratching noise. The sound dissappears and back on again very intermittently. If I leave the receiver on long enough it seems to help reducing the noise but not completely. This happened before and I hoped to solve it by lubing only. Well, it may go to the BAY if the noise won't magically disappear this week :( This will force me to rethink about vintage stuffs as they are getting OLD and thus not reliable and expensive to repair for novice like me.

Sounds like a dying transistor/Fet, or a bad solder joint...got a 838 here that does the same thing...haven't dug into it yet.

It won't sell for much busted...fix it!;)

A nice 1050 is too nice not to fix. . . I had many., . . Bought a new one and kept it 20 years. I ran a set of the first Definitive Technology BP-20s that hit the east coast before the upgrade that raised the impedance from under 4ohms to over 4 ohms, never a hiccup. Finally sold it to make more room for seperates and a bigger HT system. . . Now I am rediscovering them. . . LOVE MY 1010!!!
