i'm looking to build a little bob dylan vinyl collection, can't afford originals and was wondering which repress i should buy.

sundazed has the 10 title set for about $150+shipping "exact high-definition vinyl reproductions of the original Dylan classics# in their original, long-out-of-print mono mixes—all-analog mastered from the absolute original source tapes"

simply vinyl might be harder to get my hands on.

are the sundazed pressings any good?

i've got about a 1/2 dozen sundazed's and they are AWESOME, limited only by the inherent quality of the master tapes-- but i don't have the dylans

FWIW, and this can apply to any new vinyl, I bought Blonde on Blonde from Sundazed and the vinyl was so warped my tonearm wouldn't track. Recently bought the Beasties "Solid Gold Hits", same thing. But the sound on the Dylan was good.

I'm partial to the Sundazed monos.

I have all of the Sundazed mono Dylans and have not had any problems with them. Good sound, not great, but good.

The original mono Dylans sound much better than the Sundazed.

I know they're expensive, but that's the reason why. The tape was fresh then, and they were cut on tubed mastering consoles.

I can't comment on Sundazed's Dylan reissues (I didn't even know Sundazed was in the business of reissuing Dylan on vinyl), but Sundazed reish titles are generally of a very high quality, both in terms of source and material. They also produce nice album artwork that's usually very faithful to the original design. While they strive to use original masters as the source for all their products, they have in some instances been forced to use non-master sources, e.g., a very clean original vinyl LP, due to a particular album's original master having been lost over time, but this problem is limited to what were regionally-based small and/or private label titles. Sundazed shouldn't have any difficulties locating original masters for Dylan's Columbia titles as Columbia was anything but a regionally-based small and/or private label.

Er, have you ever been inside a giant corporation that has gone through numerous mergers and layoffs? We are not even sure what offices we have, who works here, or what they do.
