I have yet to buy it but it is definately on my short list. I saw them last time they(axl) toured. You know, the tour that lasted all of 3 cities. A buddy had a few extra tickets and they ROCKED OUT!!! Too bad it all went to sh*t shortly thereafter.

Always wanted to see them but never wanted to spend the money on a show that could last 3 songs. I know a couple people that saw them open for Aerosmith in 87/88 and that was the time to see them from what they say.

Funny thing is I saw the whole band back in 90 or 91 not sure. I was about row 31. I looked down about halfway thru the concert and found a ticket for row 2. I ditched my buddies in time to see the full GNR set. November Rain with Slash standing on Axl's piano and ripping out an amazing solo. F'in amazing. One of the best concerts I have been to. They were touring with Metallica I believe. Seems like a long time ago.

It is a much better album than it's title would imply.

Yep the Best Buy in San Diego in the area that I live in had about 20. However I had to look at all 20 of em and make sure I didn't get one with a bent bottom left hand corner!!!! So out of the 20, I got the 18th copy which was perfect. I'm picky when I buy a new album and see it's bent I won't buy it unless it's the only one there....don't wanna risk the chance that the records are damaged.

Yeah, I picked one up at BB today, they had 15-20 copies right up front on a display w/ cd copies. Then I went to check out the "vinyl section". Had about 100 copies of various stuff, alphabetized. Picked a copy of Allman Brothers at Fillmore East. Decent price. Of course a guy at the check-out took notice of the vinyl purchases. My response was something like "you're stocking vinyl again", then I remembered that they have never had it in the past. Funny.

I am hearing mixed reviews from a couple of friends who bought it.

I will have to borrow it and listen before I buy it, to see for myself.

I'll have to spin it a few more times before rendering final judgment, but first impressions are quite positive. Definitely a far cry from the original band: more industrial and less bluesy. A lot closer to the Use Your Illusion albums, IMO. But overall worth the wait. Maybe not the masterpiece everyone hoped for, but still one of the better albums I’ve heard this year. The critics might savage it, but I think time will be kind to Axl’s baby. Hard to believe I'm actually listening to it!

I give it a D. I've listened to it 4 times now and just can't get into the album. I knew it wasn't going to be like the old GNR but this album sounds over produced, poppy, and doesn't flow well, IMO.

I'll probably pick this up in a few days, but I have to wonder... is it $11 million and 13 years in production good? :scratch2:

I picked up a copy of the GNR Chinese Democracy vinyl today at the local Best Buy - they had a dedicated GNR display with 20+ copies of the LP format which was the first vinyl I've witnessed at this particular store. I walked around and was surprised to see several other LP's for sale including The Police - Certafiable 3 LP set, Elton John's The Red Piano LP Set, as well as Metallica's Death Magnetic LP. I didn't see any dedicated LP section but given the fact that their now stocking LP's, it's probably in the near future.

My impressions thus far of the new GNR material are positive...although as others have mentioned, it appears a tadbit overproduced and glossy. I, for one, would love to hear this effort in raw demo form where less would mean more [ for me, that is ].

I had my doubts that this would ever see the light of day - During his Village Gorilla Head promotion, I asked Tommy Stinson when Chinese Democracy would be released and he told me, "Soon". That was almost five years ago. From the looks of his garb, he was already promoting it.

FYI - The GNR Chinese Democracy LP purchase includes a free download of the album in MP3 format for those of you who may be on the fence about it.

i got it via itunes last night. i'll get it on vinyl soon. my initial impression is almost depressing considering both my 'guns' fanhood and the 15 years i've waited. i guess i expected too much. i'm finding myself thinking "it's close...." on alot of songs, right there but missing something, maybe production, mixing, etc... axl's also got some intonation issues on a few songs which i find impossible to believe for a singer that basically created his own notes on the earlier stuff. anyhow i'm glad it's finally out and i'll buy it on record when i have the cash, but i can't help thinking that if you compare it to what's out there now in terms of modern rock that it's a great album, but if you compare it to what axl is actually capable of that it falls drastically short.

I saw them on that tour. They kept everyone waiting for about an hour and change, big surprise. But they rocked once they came out. Metallica was kick ass as well.

Just bought it at BB today... they must have had over 100 copies, and even copies at the register! Over 10 vinyl copies, too. I eschewed the vinyl for the CD copy, as money is tight right now. GnR is a bit harder than what I usually listen to, but an initial impression is... neutral! Well produced, that's for sure. The mastering is very good, the best I have heard from a new release. Drums aren't clipped, and there are some nice nuances and stereo panning. I'm somewhat a fan of studio overproduction, a la Dark Side of the Moon, I guess. The music is interesting, like I said, harder than what I usually listen to. The vocals are a bit off pitch in spots, but tastefully grungy. The guitar is, of course, excellent. And I'm only on song 4! :D

Just got the new GnR and what a huge dissapointment. After all these years they come back and sound a lot like KORN. Didnt care for much for anything after Appetite for Destruction anyway.

I'm really starting to like this album, though I have not heard the whole thing yet - just the first six or seven tracks. I have tried a few times to listen to the whole thing but get interrupted every time. What I have heard has really grown on me. It is one of the better production/mastering pieces to come along in a while which makes for a good listening experience.

dude, your depressed cause you continue to invest your hard earned doller into hasbin artists/groups that need your funding to further their drug/bad habbits. GnR`s only really good album was appetite. lies was alright, the illusion was pretty useless, and the spaghetti incident? you have got to be kidding right? :boring:

axl and company has nothing left...........................

Waaaay too many ballads IMO, besides the first three songs which I actually like, it sounds like an album full of watered down versions of November Rain.

Ok I bought the CD yesterday (Wednesday) on my way to work, listened to it in the car and then later at home. The recording is good; a bit compressed which seems to be the trend lately but the drum kit was captured very well and the vocals are clear and blend well with the rest of the mix. Axle’s voice sounds quite good, and there are a few songs I really like. It will take more time to really evaluate this disk but I don’t hear any big hits. Time will tell.

First of all I think the recording is quite good, nice to be able to crank it up and not hear everything fall apart because of over produced equalization. I like the songs, even though I've only listened to it twice. I wish Axel would get over Phil Everly's daughter and stop singing songs on how their relationship fell apart,:tears:but songwriting for some is a form of therapy and then I'm reminded these songs were written 13 years ago.:smoke:
