You either love or hate this LP (same can be said for "Yes" or prog rock in general).

This is a great LP. I have an original pressing (George Piros mastered, I think), and it sounds so freakin' good.

Please report back on the sonics. Half Speed mastered at retail prices sounds swell.

Some can't get around Jon Anderson's high pitched voice. I dig it. Prog definitely has its downfalls. I saw this band "Dream Theater" open for Yes some years back and I wanted to hide under my seat. They seem to have embodied all the things I think make prog a dirty word in some circles. The record should arrive soon. I'll post what I find out ASAP.

System:
Technics 1210 with fluid damping.
Grado Silver.
Halfer 110 pre.
Yamaha MX 600U.
EPI 200C speakers.
So that's the lens I'm viewing this music through.

My take on Close to The Edge by Friday music:

Title track: Squire's bass is perfectly articulated. Water dripping effects make me want run and check my sink. Captured the change in texture perfectly.

Siberian: I've never heard my stereo image like this. Howe's guitar is hypnotic. Bass again is well articulated. Vocals perfect. Drums are punchy and lifelike. Bruford's rolls are articulated perfectly. Perfect all around.

Conclusion: Best reissue I've heard. Better than Darkside 30th by leaps and bounds IMHO.

I hope they don't stop with Close To The Edge, the thought of Gates half speed and the Ancient half speed makes me giddy! Fingers crossed.

I just saw Yes (In The Present tour, no Jon Anderson) on Saturday. There was a copy of the Rhino Yes (In A Word: Yes (1969- ) box set in my mailbox when I got to my other place yesterday. Close to the Edge is on it remastered.

Have not spun any of the CD's yet.

Just placed my order with FridayMusic, can't wait. Also can't wait for Tales to be reissued. :thmbsp: For years I've been listening to it on CD and the sound quality is pathetic.

Another "Yes" vote from me re: the album & the pressing to which Ken refers above.

I don't understand the comment about the CD being pathetic. YMMV I guess. I have the Rhino box set.

I meant that the sound quality of the Tales CD that I have is poor. As for the album, it is one of my all time favorites. As a matter of fact I saw the Tales tour in the old Boston Garden.

I am not sure of all that is on this box set. I have Close to the edge on now. It sounds sooo good.

I have an awesome Dead show from Boston. In a soundboard, and it was also a Dick's Picks. Not at the Garden though.
