Could I use Jet-Dry in a diy record cleaning solution in place of the wetting agent by Kodak? Photo-flo, I think it's called?
Just thinking out loud, maybe this should be in that section of AK, but I wanted to ask all the vinylgurus here too.
It is a wetting agent that prevents water droplets from forming on the dishes in an automatic dishwasher. I'm just worried about safety.

A lot of years ago when was in the Navy and processing B&W film we used two drops of liquid Ivory soap to 3 1/2 gal of water when out of Photo Flo. Would soak the film in the solution for a couple minutes and hang the film to air dry. The water would "sheet" off and dry without water spots.

Got a junk LP you could try it on? I would myself, but I don't have any alcohol or good water to try mixing it up with.

The MSDS for Jet-Dry does not list any ingredients so a test is all that can be hoped for as an answer to its safety. One of the MSDS does say it has some surfactants in it, but we deduced that.

Must not be bad chemicals since it is used on eating utensils.. can't see much you could ingest that would be bad for vinyl.

I use it in my DIY solution. I hand clean with a final rinse of distilled water. The albums rinse off clean.

Well, none of those would really hurt vinyl either.

What brand pepper sauce do you use in your cleaning solution? :D

The best pepper sauces are the special ones available with over a million Scoville units. These are the more expensive sauces usually kept in a presentation display in the store. The come packaged in very nice containers, special bags (like Crown Royal) and then special boxes. The most expensive are the best for cleaning records, in the over 5 million Scoville units level, but I just can't quite justify that expenditure yet. I'm still buying special, show-quality cables which I can enjoy with all sources and all records.

Since even Elmer's Wood Glue doesn't seem to hurt vinyl, I guess it would be allright.
