I got these as payment for repairing the front brakes on a friend's van. He got them both at the flea market for 50 bucks. The brakes were easy, just new pads and adjusting the rear shoes.

Anyway, it's a Sansui AU-417 integrated amp with a TU-417 tuner. The tuner has rack handles, the amp has one broken so I took them both off. Otherwise, they are in excellent cosmetic shape.

They sound pretty good on my B&W DM-2/MK-2's, though the amp lacks the necessary power to get these speakers very loud. This would make a good bedroom system, where it needs to sound good, but high volume isn't a requirement. Hell, my bedroom system is nearly 1000 watts RMS total, what I am saying??:D

I need to clean the controls, as they are a little noisy. I will get to that tomorrow, make sure offset and bias is in check (it passed the "watch the woofer while engaging the speaker switch" check), then decide what to do with them.

Pics, or course!

Seems like a fair trade to me.

The 417īs are really nice MOTL products that, as you mention, are probably a bit overstretched by your speakers.

Yeah, those B&W's have a hell of a crossover in them (I should know, I recapped them). It takes a lot of power to make them really sing.

Nice find and a real equitable trade-off, IMO. You could certainly sell the gear for a pretty good price, if you wish. Heck, the rack handles bring astonishing amounts, sometimes.

Money aside, I'm surprised the AU-417 couldn't move the B&W's to ear splitting levels. I've read that they're not the most efficient speaker but 60+ watts ought to get them singing pretty loud :scratch2:.

Anyways, you did good. I really liked the lower and mid end of the Sansui lineup. I think it's some of the better built and best sounding gear of that era.:thmbsp:
