Our featured product this Spring is the Almarro A205A integrated amplifier.
As many of you know, one of Venus Hi-Fi's holy grails for the past couple of years has been a great-sounding yet affordable (i.e., sub-$1000) single-ended integrated tube amp that we could recommend without hesitation to our customers. And, having gone through quite a number of contenders, we've finally found exactly what we were looking for!
Almarro's A205A integrated amplifier puts out five of the sweetest watts we've heard this side of megabuck territory. No, the A205A is not a single-ended TRIODE amp (the unit uses a pair of EL84 output tubes), but that's okay, as it actually sounds more transparent and holographic than some costlier, well-reviewed single-ended 2A3 amps that we've auditioned. And the build quality is outstanding, with a bullet-proof metal chassis and point-to-point wiring inside.
Because the A205A is relatively maintenance-free (it features auto-bias circuitry) and is quite cheap to retube (two EL84s and a single 12AX7), this amp is perhaps the perfect introduction to the wonderful world of single-ended tube amps.
