Hi,
I have several JVC decks and believe it or not the most expensive one of them has recently developed a problem. It's a JVC TD-V1010: this is a closed loop dual capstan 3-head deck with direct drive engines. Not long ago when I pressed 'play', I could hear the heads being raised to the tape and then nothing happened. Normally the cassette would have to start running, but it didn't. After 2-3 seconds the deck automatically went back into stop mode. Soon after I found out why the tape doesn't run: when the power of this deck is turned on both capstans should start spinning instantly, but at current they don't anymore. Without the capstans spinning it is of course not possible to play- (or record) cassettes anymore.
My question: am I looking at an expensive repair (capstan motor...), or could it be something relatively simple which causes the capstans not to spin anymore? Surely there must be somebody out there that has experienced a similar problem in the past with a cassette deck.
Again thanks for your suggestions!
