Here's my idea. If you have a CD-R, MD, or DAT recorder, it is likely that it will have one R/L analog RCA input and a "rec monitor" function. Take a iPod dock connecter to RCA (Monster Cables) and connect it to the recorder. You now have a 20 bit A/D converter for your iPod turning it into a 20 bit device. Use the outputs of the recorder and that's it!

Am I totally missing the boat here? How can it sound any better? Aren't you effectively just re-processing an analog signal?

That's exactly what it would be doing. Digital -> analog -> digital -> analog.

Re-processing with a 20bit converter instead of iPod's $0.20 converter.
