View Full Version : Pioneer SX-1010 Refurb

Inspired by the story of the AK SX-1010, it became obvious that my neglected SX-1010 was worth the effort to restore.
It was working but the regulator board definitely needs a recap (some caps are bulging and ready to blow) and some sort of mod for the heatsink. Anyone have thoughts on where to source small (1" x 1") heatsinks and thermal tape for a heatsink mod? Also what replacement caps to use for the 470uF/80V and 2200uF/10V caps (they both use 10mm spaced leads, which no longer appear to be commonly used for caps of the same value)? One last question, anyone have a parts unit: need the mount for the ferrite anntenna and the preamp-amp coupling pins?

Been using the 'wing-fin' heatsinks, such as those found here (http://2cooltek.safeshopper.com/67/cat67.htm?127), and cutting to the size I need. I don't trust tape at these temperatures, so I'd recommend an honest thermal adhesive, or even JB Weld, which will do a very good job if it's kept to a thin layer and the heatsink is held on with pressure to assure a good bond.

As far as the caps, the Panasonic FC cap in a 2700µf 10V value, size 18mm x 15mm (#P10232-ND) is a perfect fit for the original 2200µf caps.

The bigger 80V caps are also a slam-dunk. These two caps are being operated close to their max voltage value, so a step up to a 100V cap is a good idea. The Panasonic TSHA 560µf 100V cap (size 22mm x 25mm, part number P6695-ND) has 10mm lead spacing, and will pop right in.

Gyusher: I'll do my best to get some pix. But you know the AK SX-1010 makes mine look like an ugly ducking...

Echowars: Thanks for the tips. But I made a mistake in my original post, its the 1000uF/35V that has the 10mm spaced leads, not the 2200uF/10V. What did you use for the 1000uF?

Just use one of the FC caps (1000µf 35V or 1200µf 35V) that has a spacing of 7.5mm. Close enough and fits fine. Or...you could use the TSHA 1500µf 35V cap with real 10mm spacing (I just used the FC cap in the AK SX-1010).

Hang around, turbolite81, you'll have a lot of fun here! I'm sure electronics, computers, and diesels have much in common in making a guy feel like a dumbass.

What I want to know is how to draw red arrows on stuff, but that's prob'ly something for another forum on another website.

Not to sound like an asshole, but when you decide to call out a guy with over 14,000 posts on this site. I'm thinking you aren't that smart.

No real need to apologise...I poked you with a sharp stick (or arrow), and you reacted.

Carry on (in a thread of your own creation, hopefully). ;)
