View Full Version : Dark Side of the Moon
Wireworm5 06-09-2004, 12:46 AM Bought this Cd yesterday, anyone heard of it? This is definitely a audiophile type music, does it ever sound awesome on my rig.
Actually I've have a few tracks on mp3 but my friend awhile back said 'how can you call yourself an audiophile and not own this cd'? Well now I have a copy and I'm a true audiophile.
I am not a Pink Floyd fan I only like a few of their songs 'Another Brick in the Wall' 'Echoes' 'Comfortably Numb'. I haven't listen to many of their albums so maybe they have more good stuff.:dunno:
Haoleb 06-09-2004, 01:18 AM DSOTM is one of my less favorite floyd albums... Except i do really like "brain Damage" and "eclipse" as you can see by my quote ;)
I think my favorite albums would be The Wall and The final cut. Theyre a bit different than DSOTM though.

Wish You Were Here
The Wall
all are masterpieces!!!! :thmbsp:
ckelly 06-09-2004, 03:46 AM Pink floyd basically has 3 eras and three distinct sounds.
Their first era was with Syd Barrett, and was in the late 60s. Their sound then was psychedelic. Two albums from are Piper at the Gates of Dawn and Saucerful of secrets.
The most characteristic era was with Roger Waters at the forefront. The three most important PF albums came out then: Dark Side of the Moon,Wish You Were Here and of course The Wall. A rather interesting time for PF was just before Dark Side of the Moon where they were sort of searching for a more definate sound. A notable gem from that period is Echoes.
Then there is post Roger Waters era, which is a completely different sound, and many Pink Floyd fans dont like. I think the music isnt too bad - its different.

Unican_Eric 06-09-2004, 07:38 AM Dark Side Of The Moon was one of the first recordings by Floyd that I listened to in my brothers room downstairs. He had it recorded on my dads old RTR (cant remember the name) but it was hooked to a Pioneer receiver with a set of Celestion (I think thats how you spell it?) speakers. I was hooked ever sense.
Shain 06-09-2004, 08:18 AM Yea, it's still selling 30 some years after it was recorded.
The kids today are still buying it. (in CD form)
I thought I saw some "Top 100" LPs of all time, and it was ranked in the top 25 as I recall. Don't recall the exact number.
Andyman 06-09-2004, 03:04 PM I believe DSOTM holds the record for longest time on Billboard's top 100 lp list; something like 14 YEARS!!!!
I got into PF way back when with "Piper at the Gates of Dawn", and played "Umma Gumma" quite a bit, being partial to "Careful with that Axe, Eugene" and that song about all the animals grooving with a pict????
Hey, It's been a while!
PS. Just found this online:
"In the USA, Dark Side is the 18th best-selling album of all time and has spent a total of over 740 weeks on the Billboard magazine music charts with the longest continuous period lasting 591 consecutive weeks. It reached the #1 chart position in the US, Belgium and France; even in 2002, thirty years after the album's release, over 400,000 copies were sold in the United States, making the record the 200th bestselling album that year. "Time", "Money" and "Us and Them" have become radio call-in favourites (with "Money" having also been a bestselling single in the USA). "
Yosemite 06-09-2004, 03:33 PM I believe it was " several small furry creatures grooving with a pict"........... it's kinda scary that I remember that. Maybe I don't remember too much else...........Hmmmmm.
I think a pict was an "aboriginal" englishman. ?
One of my favorite early P.F. songs was "See Emily Play". I have it on a single. Also Bowie did an excellent cover of it on "Pinups".

My personal PF favoreetee album!!!
Careful with that axe, Eugene! and Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun are some of the BEST live recorded material short of the Dead to be put on vinyl. I'm actually listening now.
And how about Animals???
Natch:cool:
edward897 06-10-2004, 11:07 PM I've got the DSOTM LP in quad. It's an awesome recording. Until you're heard the quad version with the proper equipment then you've never heard DSOTM.

Kim G 06-12-2004, 12:25 AM Gary, Is that a scan of the album you have? I collected almost all of PF's albums a couple of years back but could never seem to score one with the GiGi soundtrack on the cover, but I have been able to score a few GiGi soundtrack albums. How's that for a PF fan?
