Ever since my teenage years in the 60s I have loved the music and technology from that era. During my college years studying Electrical Engineering at OSU, I had no money and big stereo system envy. I remember spending hours in the stereo store in Stillwater and drooling over Marantz 22XX receivers and speaker systems. Shortly after graduation and a steady paycheck, I purchased a 2230 (can't remember about the speakers and turntable) and a WC-22 walnut cabinet. 13 years later my 2230 left me in a divorce settlement. For the next 15 years or so, I settled for a SONY STR D790 and some JBL towers. After retirement, I caught the vintage Marantz bug again and bought a few receivers and some test equipment and set about fixing them up. Then along came grandchildren and other projects not related to electronics, and due to lack of time, my receivers sat untouched for about the last 5 years. I recently resolved to do some housecleaning, and get rid of the receivers and test equipment which was just gathering dust and taking up space. I did sell most of them, but in the process of getting the things ready to sell, I caught the Marantz bug again! So now I'm working on a 2230, which is what led me to this forum (for help) and looking to buy more Marantz to work on. It's crazy!

Yo, bobster! The audio bug may be crazy, but it's non-fattening (can even have a pronounced slimming effect on the wallet) and legal in all 50 states and Canada. Jump in there and enjoy!
I finally found out why Marantz equipment was so popular after I got an abused 1060 integrated amp going recently. Very nice piece of kit, indeed. Works very well with a pair of Boston Acoustics A150 I must say.
I have a brother who graduated (also an EE) from OSU along about '79 or so. Would that be anywhere near your era of attendance? T. Boone flat came through for his alma mater, didn't he?

Mazeppa,
I was at OSU from 70 to 74, then went to work for Texas Instruments in Dallas, where I worked on the SR-50 & SR-51 slide rule calculator design team (what a blast!). So I was a few years ahead of your brother. Seems I remember Mazeppa was on TV in Tulsa in that era?
