Let me apologize if this CD has been covered in a previous post (couldn't find one). Happy New Year all. Was in Wally World yesterday and decided to use a $25.00 gift card on the Beatles "Love" CD/DVD. I'd only heard bits of it previously on a local oldies FM station, and I'd downloaded "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" from this CD. I finally got it all listened to and was very impressed. Enjoyable to listen to and well-mixed and engineered. I understand nothing new was recorded for mixing, all instrumentation and sound effects were original (back in the day). My wife doesn't get into this quite as much as I do, but she asked me to keep playing the CD! Was interested in other opinions and comments on this CD. I especially like "Strawberry Fields". Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but I would say it is worth a listen. Cheers and everyone be safe tonight!

You are right, it is an impressive CD. However, I was disappointed in the DVD -- all it shows is the name of the song and that's it.

This CD was produced to correspond with the act that is still playing in Las Vegas. I was fortunate enough to see the act and it was impressive.

True, save for one item: George Martin scored the strings on While My Guitar Gently Weeps and recorded them for this release.

Definately one of my favorite albums form the past few years. I had no idea wallyworld carried the cd/dvd version. I just ordered it online the other night.

As for the comment on the dvd only displaying the title. This is supposed to be a music only dvd and the reason for it's existance is because the cd version is cut due to the space constraints of the cd format itself. The dvd contains several bonus minutes. Can't wait till it comes in the mail.

Got it, love it. My daughter (13 y/o) must be a bit of a purist as she prefers the original mixes.

I've also seen the Cirque de Soliel show at the Mirage and was in a trance the entire time. It was darker themed than I expected - a sad story beautifully told.

I don't have the CD, I bought the LP set.. Only 5000 were printed. It wasn't cheap either to me for an album. The most expensive I had bought to that point.... That aside.. WELL WORTH THE PRICE.

I bought it more for my wife because she is a big Beatles lover.. I like them a lot too, but wasn't going to hold my breath with knowing it was all remixed..

It gets played quite often, and usually at a really nice volume... Will probably end up putting it on at some point tonight.

I do like the one quote in the book that George Martin's son made about remixing everything.. "I felt like I was drawing a mustache on the Mona Lisa..."

I got to admit.. It was a very artistically added mustache... :thmbsp:

I had no idea about the DVD portion. There wasn't anything letting me know about it. I figured it was just a cheap ploy to make more money.

I have the LP as well. I consider myself a huge Beatles fan with over 100 albums and about 50 cds, and in the past I would probably have scoffed at remixing any of this great music. But you know I really like this album. It puts a fresh face on the music and evokes all kinds of emotions.

I also find the CD to be very enjoyable. George Martin and son did a great job to create something new out of old.

I was wary, too, but the fun mixes overcame my musical snobbery.

The DVDa is a great 5.1 mix.

I've had this one since it was released. A new twist on the old songs. Very nice but I still like the originals the best.

I like the LOVE mixes, but after many, many listens I have to say there is a certain subtle "life" that the mix is missing... little things, like someone tapping on their guitar's top in the silent measure of Here comes the Sun. which is not silent in the LOVE mix.

It is still a compelling version of the music, but it is kind of a sanitized ideal of perfection (or what George Martin remembers hearing :) ) more than anything else for me. And I still love it.

That's the dvd audio version.... which requires a dvd audio player

The cd/dvd I was talking about it 2.0 and plays on any standard dvd player

The multi-channel mix is one of the most "spatial" I've heard. Excellent use of the format. :music:
