I'm a big Yes fan but when this one came out it was a bit strange for the times. Double album with 4 songs. I don't hold it against Rick Wakeman for not liking this release.

Just listened to it last Friday. A very cool album.

That's one LP I tried and tried and tried to like, but it never did anything for me.

I played all four sides for probably my first time ever about 3-4 months ago and decided my copies were going into the Swap Box. In fact, maybe I'll spin all my Yes stuff and see how it stands up; it probably will come down to "Fragile", "Close to the Edge" and maybe "Yessongs", as these were the songs that drew me in and what they played when I saw them a couple times back in the day.

But as always YMMV

Wow! I was going to start a thread about this album yesterday but held off. I'm glad to see someone besides me likes it. I've been playing this a lot over the last week and am more impressed today than I was 35 years ago(when I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread). IMHO I think this is the group's finest hour. For me it defines what Prog music is all about. Where others see it as pompous and overblown, I find it developed and elegant. One thing I realized as I listened to it was how wonderful it sounds on a good system with pristine vinyl. Up until about a year ago all I had was the original beat up copy I purchased when it was released. My system has improved dramatically over the last two years as well. Thank you for starting up this thread.

For some reason that's one album I remember the day & place I bought it (when it first came out). Paid $8.98.

I had this recording on 8 track back in the mid-70s and would play it on long car trips. It was interesting road music back then, but I have not heard it in about 30 years.

Tales was my favorite Yes album for many years. I was really into them in High School a hundred years ago. I still really like it, but I think these days I spin Close to the Edge a lot more often.

I just saw the other day that there is a Roger Dean exhibit at the SF Art Exchange. There is an original print of the cover from Tales for sale. $2500
