Just found that SX-550 at the local antiquity shop for 10 euros

wood-like plastic on front has disapeared but I'll give him a new youth... already on my work table for examination :lazer:

more pics when finished!

Very pretty Receiver... for EU$10 you stole it :)

As you said... with very little elbow grease it will look new.

Great score! You'll love working on these, they're fun. Built like tanks! The x2x, x3x, and xx50 series were Pioneer's glory days, brick outhouses all of them.

I've had a 450 since new...I'd never pass up an opportunity to rescue an xx50 unit from oblivion. If it's anything like my 450 it'll be a *very* sweet and smooth amplifier that sounds bigger than its modest power rating, your 550 is 20wpc.

Post pics from surgery if you would please, Doctor... :)

after listening: sounds very neutral... but a little bit of tone control and it gives his personality, bright and clear sound, and bass-generous

I'm really happy with this new one, a great day for me :)

Hmmm....someone's been in there. Those resistors on the transformer aren't stock. The transformer's missing its cover, too...

I doubted about it, some scotch was in it

I don't know what's happened to need those manipulations... :dunno:
