hi everybody, my name is Cory and i am just getting in to vintage audio. i love music, and want to create a setup that is just for that. No movies or anything, just music. Although i wanted to go tube first, i realized that i would have to save some money for a bit. So, I ended up finding and old Sansui solid-state 771 receiver that was recently serviced for $125. The guy also threw in a Fisher Studio Standard belt-drive MT-6310 TT with a Shure M-72EJ cartridge for $25. As i did not have any TT at that moment, I took it. I am still on the hunt for a nice wooden TT from a good brand. Then, I found a pair of mint condition Klipsch KG4's. This guy wanted $200, but i walked away with em' for $160. Here's the cool part. This Christmas, i asked my stepdad if he still had those old Klipsh speakers that i remembered years ago...to my suprise, he said yes, and asked me if i wanted them! Hell yeah i want them! I went to get them from the closet and found that they are original Heresy 3-ways, SCORE!! Well, heres where it gets rough. I came home and was hooking the Heresy's to my 771, and accidentally touched the positive and negative speaker wire together while plugged into the amp and the speaker. Now my 771's left channel is toast. DAMN! Luckily, there is a place not far from home that has it now and is fixing it as you read this. They said $85 for the fix, which doesn't seem bad. They also buy, sell, and trade old equipment. I have my eye on a Denon DP-62L for $300 in serviced condition. Anyways, that's my newbie story for you guys to all laugh at. I love this new hobby and will be on here often.:smoke:

i forgot to add that i found an old guitar player that was moving an selling his vinyl collection. so me and my friend went over there and ended up getting all 215 or so lp's and a bunch of old percussion instruments(timbale's, congas, and random whatnot) for $400, and since i found the guy, i picked through the lp's first and took 67 awesome albums for $1.50 each. my friend is an avid vinyl collector and took the rest that i didnt want. so i now have 67 new to me lp's including a bunch of zappa, hendrix, zepplin and other great classic rock albums to start my collection of music. i have been going to the local record shops and picking through every lp before leaving, finding good stuff too. im having alot of fun listening to all the music i love on record now, instead of cd...it sounds so much better too!

welcome to AK! i don't know that i would spend the money to have the sansui fixed. for that amount, you can pick up a working, decent vintage receiver at a thrift store.

this 771 that i bought is in perfect condition though..except for the fact that i blew the left channel out of the amp. they said $70-85 as an estimate. the place fixing it wouldnt sell that sansui 771 for less than $150 they said. the thrift stores just dont have anything good around here. theres just not much vintage stuff around these parts i guess. i loved the 771 the 3 weeks i had it hooked up. ill have it home soon good as new. thanks for welcoming me!

Welcome to AK! It sounds like you've got a pretty good start on a nice music system! I personally think it's a real smart move to focus on building a music-only system. :thmbsp: One size does not fit all, it fits none! Enjoy the forums! :music:

Mental note: never remove/install speakers while the amp is powered up ! eek!

Sounds like a good start. I can't find anything good in the thrifts for any money. So IIWY I'd be fixing the Sansui too.

Is it the G771?

If so, sell it on eBay for parts and get yourself a good used Mac!

no, its just the 771...i think the g-771(import) is the same as the g-7700(usa). im gonna save up and get a used mcintosh someday, but i want to keep the 771 since its my first find.
