Axcel 01-06-2009, 12:45 PM Found dead of an apparent heart attack on New Years Day. RIP but who was he? SPL db 01-06-2009, 12:48 PM RIP but who was he? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Asheton Saint Johnny 01-06-2009, 12:48 PM ?? Blasphemy! lol He was the original guitar player in The Stooges. As a matter fact #29 best guitarist on some Rolling Stone list. Axcel 01-06-2009, 12:53 PM sorry no disrespect intended slow_jazz 01-06-2009, 12:58 PM R.I.P. Ron. He was back with the Stooges recently. KeninDC 01-06-2009, 01:11 PM Level-headed dude, especially in comparison with Iggy Pop. His fat, distorted guitar licks will live on forever. Ken Mystic 01-06-2009, 02:01 PM Sad news regarding this son of Michigan. Yes, rest in peace, Ron. Saint Johnny 01-06-2009, 02:07 PM I saw him with Destroy All Monsters about 10 years ago. No worries Axcel...my indignation was a put-on...lol But still a sad day for us fans of loud distorted guitars! caddisgeek 01-06-2009, 02:47 PM Oh man, that sucks, RIP Ron, glad him and Iggy patched things up in the end and he finally got his due electronjohn 01-06-2009, 03:54 PM RIP, Ron. Dude could play, that's for sure! peacemeal 01-06-2009, 08:08 PM The Stooges changed the way I heard rock music altogether (the first three albums, anyway). Asheton's guitar work was incendiary, esp. on Funhouse. Man, that album kicks so much ass. He will be missed. lotusstp 01-06-2009, 08:28 PM Growing up isolated in the Metropolitan NY arrea in the 70's, I managed to avoid hearing anything cool like the Stooges till I went to college. After hearing "1969" my eyes and ears were opened, and I have been a Stooges fan ever since. Whilst I was unable to see them on their reunion tour, i picked up an audio copy of their Coachella show (with Mike Watt on bass). All killer, no filler... :sigh: Elfasto 01-06-2009, 08:46 PM Damn. clydeselsor 01-06-2009, 08:58 PM Sad news indeed... Larry 01-06-2009, 09:12 PM Living in the Northern Suburbs of Detroit, I grew up and still listen to: Stooges, MC5, Third Power, Savage Grace et al....Ron's driving guitar riffs almost came out of the speakers. While I saw the tapes of the Stooges reunion, I just couldn't make myself see and hear the new when I have the old etched in my memory. I first saw Iggy in 1969 in a concert with the MC5 and the UP - I'll always remember.... Larry |
