View Full Version : The Most Stylish Turn Tables njb182 01-06-2009, 06:17 PM What are some of the most "stylish" turn tables you have ever seen? Post pics! Go, go, go! wilkes85 01-06-2009, 06:27 PM http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff94/wilkes85/Duffy_204_GoodBadUgly_side_hires1.jpg chadnliz 01-06-2009, 06:28 PM Walker, Clearaudio have a luxury look to them, SOTA tables have that traditional wood elegance, B&O had some purty tables that are even in the museum of modern art. So easy to find on Google I will leave it up to others to look if they wish, if Vintage is more your thing then again 2 great ends of the spectrum are the traditional SOTA look and the modern BO look. jwrosenthal 01-06-2009, 06:47 PM Gotta give it to the Thorens 124 for classic styling but only when paired with the original Ortofon style plinth (like mine below)...not that hunk of walnut box that all the US models came with. For Modern, I like the Clearaudio Avantgarde (any of the solid plinth Clearaudio's for that matter) for it's simplicity and elegance.:thmbsp: http://www.needledoctor.com/Clearaudio-Avantgarde-CMB-Turntable?sc=7&category=12248 James R. SA-708 01-06-2009, 07:11 PM These are the two turntables in the Museum of Modern Art collection: Technics SL-10 http://www.moma.org/collection/browse_results.php?object_id=4121 Beogram 6000 http://www.moma.org/collection/browse_results.php?object_id=2161 SaSi 01-06-2009, 07:38 PM Hard to argue with the MoMa critics. BTW, there are two additional B&O TT listed there, the Beogram 1200 and Beogram 4000 between the 10 items designed by Jakob Jensen. Although personal style differs, I can claim two different designs that have established themselves at images of Turntables to copy. The Technics SL1200 (copied by Technics themselves a few times apart from other designs from other manufacturers or ripoffs) and the Thorens TD160 (copied a lot as well). My personal favourite though is the Luxman PD121 with a Stax tonearm. Here is a picture of the PD-121 with an SME tonearm I found on the web. My uncle has the PD-121 with a Stax arm and a Shure V15III. Everytime I visit him I go through the ritual of offering a Revox B790 for the Lux. He always rejects my offer.:tears: Mark W. 01-06-2009, 09:16 PM Mine Pro-Ject RM-5 on a custom sub plinth with lighted cueing pedistal. http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h217/UJ78/Shrine%20January%202008/Shrine2008JanTTnightshot006ww.jpg markus 01-06-2009, 09:50 PM http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff94/wilkes85/Duffy_204_GoodBadUgly_side_hires1.jpg OK . . . I want one of these  we need details dude ! is this homebuilt ? I assume its a mono setup ? whatcha got for cart's in that badboy ? My vote for 'most stylish' has gotta be the Denon DP-60L :thmbsp: I uncovered one in a Florida thrift shop and gave it to my dad as a retroactive birthday / christmas gift a few years ago . . . overbuilt, two different tonearms, and a real purdy rosewood veneered plinth :thmbsp: http://www.audioscope.net/images/denondp60l.jpg SA-708 01-06-2009, 11:12 PM Hard to argue with the MoMa critics. BTW, there are two additional B&O TT listed there, the Beogram 1200 and Beogram 4000 between the 10 items designed by Jakob Jensen. I didn't mean to slight B&O nor Jensen. I searched the MOMA site for "turntable" and found the two I linked. The Beogram 1200 and 4000 are cataloged as "record players" so my search didn't find them. MaxSeven 01-06-2009, 11:22 PM Clearly, the new Thorens TD-550 is the most stylish rig I have ever seen... http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd358/Maxseven777/ThorensTD-550.jpg wilkes85 01-07-2009, 02:00 AM Clearly, the new Thorens TD-550 is the most stylish rig I have ever seen... http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd358/Maxseven777/ThorensTD-550.jpg That's nice! I really LOVE the woodgrain on it. Very classy looking TT. But I think the dust cover looks cheap lol... it needs a nice smoked dust cover. That would just bring it all together nicely. Satch 01-07-2009, 03:05 AM What some DIY can achieve. This is the original TT, a JVC QL7: http://www.mijnalbum.nl/GroteFoto-LDFTCQX4.jpg After some hard work, someone (not me!
