My friend (21 y/o) has a friend (65ish y/o) who contacted him about some records she was throwing out. She admitted that some were never played or even opened, and that it would be a shame to just toss them (!)

So he calls me, since he has zero interest in classical music, and knows that I dabble in collecting rare recordings.

First off, I got a NEVER opened copy of Beethoven's 9 Symphonies in an LP boxset, on Deutsche Grammophone, performed by the Berlin Philharmonic under Herbert von Karajan. Total of 8 discs in the box, along with a huge multipage leaflet about the orchestra. :thmbsp::thmbsp: Recorded 1962.

I cleaned em up a bit (just dust, nothing major) and can't wait to embark on this musical journey. :smoke::D

Next up, a HiFi/Stereo Review Test Record from 1963, which has a small manual and steps on how to test your cartridge's tracking ability of low frequency, high dB passages, and high frequency, high dB passages. On the b-side, a Direct-to-Disc recording of some classical works, with "No Intervening Tape Process, for the ultimate in fidelity" :thmbsp::yes:

Some others include Peter Paul and Mary's Ten years together LP, a cool original pressing of the kingston Trio, and a NM+ copy of 2001: A Space Odyssey. I'm going to sign off now and just indulge. Life's good!!!!

Good for you. That box set sounds real interesting and it can never hurt to have a test LP. My 80 yr old Dad would fight you for that KT.

Wow I love Deutsche Grammophone releases, so a sealed box set of Beethoven's symphonies must just be like heaven! Enjoy your tunes, Nick

So far, I'm up to side B of the 1st disc and I am really happy with what I'm hearing. This is what I HAVE my system for!!!!:thmbsp::music:

Vinyl1, I think they are, but can't find the word written anywhere. However, each of the discs has the tulips design at the top of the label. These sound really good. Luckily, they are in NM+ to EX condition and sirface noise is virtually non-existent. I probably didn't even need to clean them....

I have the later "made in Germany' labeled ones? What are the differences, sonically? I suppose the earlier records are more valuable...correct?

I've got the DG set on 7.5ips R2R tape. :music:

Absolute masterpieces!

Ten years Together was an LP that I grew up with and still have a couple copies of.

The earliest 'Alle Hersteller' tulips are certain to be tube-mastered.

The later tulips are a from the transitional era, and are a mixture.
