vegabass25 01-08-2009, 10:38 PM LOL Again not sure if there is a similar thread but I can't find one. So what song do you hate so much (like makes you want to smash you system hate?)
Mine is: wake me up when September ends by green day (which was just on the radio and gave me the brilliant idea for this thread) Man o man how I hate that song!!!!:pistols::gigglemad:gigglemad
Anyway sorry for the little rant:boring::D
Whats yours?
tturner1157 01-08-2009, 10:47 PM ANYTHING by the Jonas Brothers...also recently on the radio.

Tom:music:
ablethevoice 01-08-2009, 10:48 PM Anything at all by the Red Hot Chili Peppers or Guns and Roses. Both of those guys make me wish I had been born without ears.
Also: ANY (c)rap or hip hop "music" and modern country. I can listen to George Jones, Tom T. Hall, Waylon Jennings and the like all day, but NOT Garth Brooks, Carrie Underwood and all that other new crud.
Elfasto 01-08-2009, 10:52 PM Kelly Perry (or whatever her name is), Britney Spears, Rhianna, or any of the dance music. Repetitious nonsense to me....

tentoze 01-08-2009, 11:01 PM Since I control what plays on my stereo, nothing would make me want to smash it.

centralflori 01-09-2009, 12:09 AM Since I control what plays on my stereo, nothing would make me want to smash it.
I agree with this statement whole heartedly. However if either Thriller or most any other Micheal Jackson music, or that Frampton song that drones on with the wa wa peddle forever comes on the car radio I can't change the channel quick enough.

What are you listening too that plays Jonas Brothers? I've only seen these guys around the internet, I thought they were like a Nickelodeon band.
oh yeah, i really don't get mad at music. sometimes, but its something else going on in my life that i'm pissed at, not the music or a particular song.
Fisher-Dave 01-09-2009, 01:19 AM LOL it dosent have to be playin through your stereo it can be anywhere:yes:. and besides im sure we have all had the radio on and it changes to some crappy terrible song:smoke:.

Sir.Byrd 01-09-2009, 01:23 AM Kelly Perry (or whatever her name is), Britney Spears, Rhianna, or any of the dance music. Repetitious nonsense to me....
Katy Perry.
Her song "I kissed a girl" (and she liked it!) drives me insane! Its so irritating sounding, plus my last girlfriend left me for a chick so its already a sore thing.
Other than that I love music that other people find awful, like 80's music!
OvenMaster 01-09-2009, 01:38 AM What song makes you want to smash your stereo?!!?
You mean I'm limited to just one?
"Tainted Love" by Soft Cell wins the coin toss. :uzi:

Vinylrockrob 01-09-2009, 01:58 AM Something tells me I have to tune in to another radio station in the car because their is only that hiphop, house, rap noise playing. No I don't have any of that noise here in my living room.
Darkspeed 01-09-2009, 02:02 AM Kokomo by The Beach Boys. Makes me wanna smash, closely followed by throw-up onto my stereo. Not that it would ever somehow get played on my system....I gagged just typing this.
High_Current 01-09-2009, 02:10 AM Skynards: "Saturday Night Special" hate that song with a passion.
Skynyrd, unless you mean another band.
davidb 01-09-2009, 07:57 AM "Love stinks" J. Geils Band. It sucked when it was new and I still hear it today. How can this be?
RichPA 01-09-2009, 08:01 AM I've heard stuff that makes me want to smash someone else's stereo.
ke4jhj 01-09-2009, 08:12 AM I agree with Tentoze and OnePixel.
Since I am in control of what is played on my stereo, I have never felt like smashing it, never.
But I do not control what is played on yours. There were times that I would have gladly taken a shotgun to others' stereos.:bash::uzi:

ducati_EL34 01-09-2009, 09:45 AM Nothing. I don't listen to FM through either of my systems. I only listen to what I like. :D
MJSNet 01-09-2009, 10:13 AM So what song do you hate so much (like makes you want to smash you system hate?)
I didn't think it was to be taken literally. I assumed we were just going for some level above just plain "hate".
I hope no one is actually doing this! :D
ccheath 01-09-2009, 11:41 AM Commercial Blabbermouths!
Don't get me wrong. I rather drive to the station to smash their face in than to smash my stereo. :D
Cactus Bob 01-09-2009, 12:45 PM Phil Collins - Yuck . . . What a sell-out!

Slip Nixon 01-09-2009, 02:41 PM Now that i've thought about it a bit more...
Not one particular song stands out, but one thing that drives me up the wall is horrible production quality in modern music. Or clipping, or overdone effects, too much reverb (yes, there is such a thing). so i guess my beef is with the production side of things. :)
dnewma04 01-09-2009, 03:28 PM Anything from:
Steely Dan - Aja
Makes me feel like I am at a mall shopping and I dislike shopping. Overplayed, boring and generic. Blah.
Anything by the Fine Young Cannibals. They drive me crazy, it's not a good thing.
Crocodile Rock needs to be on the list, as well. And Benny and the Jets.

*edit*
actually, i have thought of another thing.
Bands in the 90's invented this thing called the "hidden song". They put this mythical track on their last song about 45 minutes into the song separated by silence.
I love the Deftones, but on their Around The Fur album, they had so called "hidden track". I was cranking the tunes one day, extemely loud, and passed out on the couch because i was tired. The last song was kinda slow and a bit on the low side. I woke up 40 minutes later, abruptly, to rumbling drums followed by head shattering distorted guitar and it literally scared the shit out of me. No, i didnt shit my pants, but i about had a heart attack and died at the young age of 20.
pmsummer 01-09-2009, 04:04 PM None.
However, there are PLENTY of songs that make me want to smash other people's stereos.
onepixel 01-09-2009, 04:15 PM For the weak and feeble I will be more than happy to come over and smash your stereo or anything else. Your choice of 10 pound sledge, Louisville Slugger, crowbar, or the kitchen sink even (must be removed).
vegabass25 01-09-2009, 04:17 PM I didn't think it was to be taken literally. I assumed we were just going for some level above just plain "hate".
I hope no one is actually doing this! :D
Definatly not supposed to be taken literally. I (and im sure noone else) on here, would ever smash their stereo unless their life depended on it!

Now, could you really smash someone else's gear if it came down to it? or would you smash their ceiling fan and run out the backdoor with the goods?
elcoholic 01-09-2009, 04:22 PM Robert Palmer - Simply Irresistable at exactly 0:55 when there's this sound effect like swords clashing. It hurts my head and I want to hurt back.
edit ... and anything by Huey Lewis
JerryM 01-09-2009, 04:39 PM A few songs that make me want to unload a double barrel shotgun at whatever source they're coming from:
Terry Jacks, Seasons in the Sun
Debby Boone, You Light Up My Life
Paul Anka, Having My Baby
shimniok 01-09-2009, 05:59 PM I get really, really angry when I hear anything by Sublime. Especially Santaria. :gigglemad :uzi:
pweller 01-09-2009, 08:43 PM I agree with a lot of the 'stinkers' already posted, Red Hot Chili Peppers, anything from overplayed Greenday, Celine Dion, Coldplay (and all other male singers that sing like babies/girls - you don't have to get overly macho, but cut out the goo-goo whispery stuff).
How about that tune 'Takin' Care of Business' by ???. They got a guitar solo in that song that really sucks.. like seriously bad... just unlistenable.
vegabass25 01-09-2009, 08:48 PM I agree with a lot of the 'stinkers' already posted, Red Hot Chili Peppers, anything from overplayed Greenday, Celine Dion, Coldplay (and all other male singers that sing like babies/girls - you don't have to get overly macho, but cut out the goo-goo whispery stuff).

grunt 01-09-2009, 10:37 PM Someone mentioned Saturday Night Special by Skynyrd. I love that song, but only because it's fun to point out to Skynyrd fans, who tend to be rather devout, and are invariably gun nuts, that the song is anti-gun.
Better to make someone else feel like smashing something
Alex6969 01-09-2009, 11:18 PM Anything with Autotune in it.
T-Pain, Kanye West, etc

This from a band where the lead singer was known to be violent at times. Just one more reason why I do not look to singers/actors for political commentary... :thumbsdn:

They also sing "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet (Buh-buh-buh-buh-buh baby...)"
screenersam 01-10-2009, 12:29 PM I believe the thread suggests songs that make you WANT to trash your system, not actually do that.
'Sexy Eyes' by Dr. Hook (and anything else by him/them)
'Achy Breaky Heart'. (gag)
post-police Sting ('Every Step you Take', 'Brand New Day'...)
'Red Red Wine', UB40. U want some Reggae, play some Marley, for pete's sake...
good call on 'Havin my Baby'. barf.

I like it too. The skynyrd song I can't stand is "gimme three steps." :gigglemad: That makes me want a saturday night special for blasting the receiver. "what's your name" sux pretty bad, too (imho).
other standouts are "come on feel the noiz," most anything by billy joel, and guns and roses (slash seems like a cool guy, but I never could get into that band :yuck: ).
Jailtime 01-10-2009, 02:42 PM Anything by Styx or Foreigner. :puke: And Satisfacton by the Rolling Stones. Most overrated song ever. And yes, Saturday Night Special does suck. :D

liquidluvr 01-10-2009, 09:34 PM RAP MUSIC!!!! No musical value whatsoever!!!
Soundthought 01-10-2009, 10:19 PM I'm sorry.
Really sorry......
This thread is weak and the concept of smashing ones' stereo 'cuz of a song or such is beyond compare.
Hello?
I thought we're here to preserve that which is construed as precious..(IE highly esteemed and/or of great value)......as in most of our members' gear.
Been reading this thread from it's incept, and I must say.........BS.
Dude...
If you want to smash your gear or anything else for that matter, you need a course in anger management or something of the same sorts.
Don't know where you've been, or the gear you've aquired, but smashing is a reality that my soundthought can't comprehend.
I know where you're coming from (disappointment and anger-wise) and I understand the premise of your original post. but please brother....grow up and realize that many of us have spent years, blood, sweat, and tears to aquire the gear we have today, so smashing anything in our system due to a poorly recorded medium is beyond recognition.
It ain't happening.
Shit.....I'm changing channels...sources. and the like to avoid such kind of mayhem in my life.
Hence, the nature of our forum and quest.....
As far as the radio or XM goes.....just sit through it or change the venue, cuz eventually it will change into something palatable.
Just my 2 cents.......but still.
I know you're talking about songs, aritists, and genre's that any given individual doesn't like, but really????
Most of us get it and have learned to either grow from the experience, or take it to another level.
If you don't like what you're hearing then ask yourself....WHY?
Is it the presentation and performace of the artist or the engineering or the venue.
There are MANY performance artists out there whos' recording engineers did no justice too, as far as recording goes, and one only needs an intuitive nature to weed the good from the bad.
Ask yourself this....
What's genuine, from the heart and unique, and what's fluff and filler for the uneducated masses.
Regards,
John the crusher and destroyer.
vegabass25 01-10-2009, 10:47 PM Again, The title of this thread is What song makes you WANT to smash your stereo? NOT "what song will force you to smash the shit out of your stereo"! Cmon people its just a title! A T I T L E! Im ready to start a new thread called "whats the one song you absolutely cannot stand." because the title of this thread is causing a lot of bullshit over a thread I made out of boredom!!:sigh::thumbsdn:
audiodog69 01-10-2009, 10:49 PM I agree, but this idea is very simple not that anybody would actually smash there gear over a bad song but I think this is a very good idea for a thread like for example I hate it when bands take old classic songs and remake them with todays technology and make million's of dollars of it, not that I would actully smash may gear over it. but just express my epionion thats all.
vegabass25 01-10-2009, 10:50 PM I was stupid for coming up with the title of this thread!!!!! I have come to realize that!! What was I thinking??1?:cry::dammit::stupid::twak::bash::uzi::whip:
Sorry about the rant guys
really sorry

Soundthought 01-10-2009, 10:59 PM No, brother....I think that's a great idea.
When posting a thread out of boredom, you must take into consideration the context in which it will be construed.
I'm not mad or offended in any way.
Hell, i can tell you and would be happy to physcially show you destruction of desirable gear with my own sledgehammer.
Not a problem.
It's the nature of the premise which causes underlying alarm.
Just remember....
Here at AK, we are of a deeper, more itellectual sort.
Such things don't sit well.....as it were.
Just sayin'
But.... if you really need it.
My 6'3" 220 frame, will be happy to allow you opportunity to watch me destroy an irreplaceable piece.
Heh... I've even thought about it as a thread all unto itself.
Question is............
What piece?
Regards,
John.

LOL ya i shoulda put a bit more thought into the title. Tho im sure noone here would smash their gear out of anger over a song playing through it. I know i wouldent! I dont mean to piss anyone here off and i never do on purpose!
Just remember, VegaBass is not creative somtimes with his thread titles!:screwy:
Have a good nite everyone:thmbsp:
audiodog69 01-10-2009, 11:20 PM Epionions, ideas and learning is what this site is is all about, a person should keep a open mind and a willing to learn when searching this site.
Soundthought 01-10-2009, 11:22 PM It's all good.... :)
LOL.
In the spirit of things....i've decided to crush a Pioneer SX-550 in the name of Barry Manilow.
Any song will suffice.
One.
Two.
Three.
SMASH.
Pieces fly everywhere......
Total mayhem....
It was liberating, to say the least.
Maybe, I should reconsider my original position.
Hell, it was better feeling than a good shagging by one of my regular "wanna be's".
Ahhhhh.
To be me.
A good thing.
'nite brother.

Yes, I guess that makes it a "cover" too... :scratch2:
freddyfender 03-04-2009, 05:45 PM Any WHO rave-up. Hey, I love the Who, I just wanna get in on the fun!
tshoejohn 03-04-2009, 05:57 PM I worked in a small build shop when the White Stripes came out. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying they are bad. I know they have a large following, etc. However to me they just sounded like fingernails on a chalk board. One of the guys 3 benches over worshiped that band, in fact if it were possible he would build them a temple and become the high priest of Stripism. He forced the rest of us to listen to that CD over and over for a week. Somehow his crappy little Soundesign or York or whatever that POS was made its way to the shipping department and got filled with shipping foam. (I can neither confirm nor deny that I was involved.)
Trower 03-04-2009, 06:00 PM Pretty much any country that isn't old school Hank Williams and such.

Dynacoman 03-04-2009, 06:14 PM Anything I hate I play on a bose then it almost sounds good.
Big Tuna 03-04-2009, 06:30 PM Hey Vega, no talking about smashing Stereos here! That is like a mortal sin here. I'm surprised no one else has said what I'm saying. Smashing one's stereo, especially if it's a beautiful vintage piece like mine would be considered an act of audio war! :yikes:
Anyways what would drive me bugger would be Rod Stewart or Michael Bolton, absolutely cannot stand them. I would rather get mauled by a pack of wild dogs than listen to those two. :D
dnewma04 03-04-2009, 06:34 PM Charlie, about 38 people said what you are saying so far. :)
I'll agree with Michael Bolton and would have agreed with the Rod Stewart thing all they way up until hearing him doing some bluesy type rock on an old Jeff Beck album. I became a believer, he can really belt out that style of music with the best of them.
Axcel 03-04-2009, 07:12 PM Since I control what plays on my stereo, nothing would make me want to smash it.

zombie1210 03-08-2009, 03:01 PM And for some reason, I can't listen to anything by The Eagles. Puke time....
fropiler 03-08-2009, 07:31 PM Cmon i was hoping this thread would live a BIT longer :D
A simple search will generate more song/artist/band hating threads here than you can shake a stick at.
Always big fun.
Trower 03-08-2009, 09:02 PM I just realized tonight driving across town, that I have a deep dislike for Bruce Springsteen and anything he calls music. He's one of the few artists I can't tolerate at all.

Me too. I think it has something to do with tthe fact that he always sounds like he's taking a dump when he sings.

This is the thread that is 1 notch above band/song hating threads. This is the thread for songs you hate with a passion!:D
LOL
Asuming it's on the tuner not by my choice, anything by the Dead.
Chimpkin 03-09-2009, 10:34 AM It's not a stereo, but I came really close to putting my foot through my tv the other day when I walked in and the "Hollaback Girl" video from Gwen Stefani was on. It gets my vote for the top 10 most annoying songs ever!
d-ray657 03-09-2009, 11:36 AM ANYTHING by the Jonas Brothers...also recently on the radio.
Yuuuuckkk...I think my Marantz even turned GREEN!!
Tom:music:
I have managed to avoid Boy Bands. Couldn't tell you anything by the Jonas Brothers, the Backsteet Boys, and others whose names I've gratefully forgotten. There does seem to be an abundance of Backstreet Boys in the CD bins in trift stores. They are to CDs what Barbara Streisand is to vinyl.

zombie1210 03-09-2009, 07:49 PM Radio in general makes me want to off myself, except CBC radio 2 :D
Most radio, I would agree. But since I picked up my 8080DB, and it can actually tune in FM stations properly, I've been listening to the local classical music station. I've never been especially into classical music, but hearing it with such clarity has opened up a whole new area of interest for me.
jhaan92 03-10-2009, 12:18 AM Just about anything by the Rolling Stones-the only thing that I ever liked from them was the a side of "Tattoo You". The b-side sucked.....25 minutes of my life I will never get back.
"Black Dog" from Led Zeppelin
"Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynyrd
"Money" by Pink Floyd
"That's The Way I Like It (Uh-Uh)" by KC & The Sunshine Band
ANYTHING BY KC & THE SUNSHINE BAND
ALL CRUNK RAP MUSIC (early hip-hop like Grandmaster Flash & Tone-Loc are cool. They had a reason to make the music-and it was music we could understand!)
NOSEFLUTE CONCERTOS FROM THE 70's!!!!
There are more, but I have the power to not let them play.....(insert evil cackle!!)
Jason
jhaan92 03-10-2009, 12:21 AM Here is someone that is great to listen to:
Madeleine Peyroux - Careless Love.
I just bought the MFSL half-speed master, and it sounds outstanding! She has the 30's sound, and it is so easy to melt into a chair and drift away when you listen to her music!

Far enough. LOL. No smashing ones system is just stupid. Noone here has actually done it (or will I hope)
Anything by:
Johnny Cougar
Bob Seeger (especially "Turn the Page")
Eagles
Lou Christie
Tommy Roe
The Four Seasons
and last but not least
Joannie Summers - "Johnny Get Angry"
and
The Tokens - "The Lion Sleeps Tonight"
I used to hate "Sugar Shack" but now I just think it's funny.

Cosmic 05-26-2009, 08:48 PM Well, lessee.....
I know that if anyone were to bring "My Beautiful Balloon/Up Up and Away"
to the apartment in any media form, they would be physically evicted off our 9th floor balcony.....the sappy singing and the excruciating chord changes just gives me a Charles Manson moment when it comes on the car radio.
What was that abomination by the Carpenters? "Muskrat Love"? "Gerbil Love"?
(you know the one.) On my never-play list with a bullet. For me, in case it gets played.
Anything by Sade. The woman is beautiful, but she earns an unbeatable double award from me: she is BORING as hell as a singer, and to add to the misery, her "sophisticated" songs have chords and changes in them that make me want to rip my skin off in public. If Frank S. were still alive, he'd give her a good talkin' to.
There is waaaay too much new pap for me to list, but suffice to say, I am glad (much like TenToze) that I am the only one who puts anything on my stereo.
C.
sfox52 05-26-2009, 09:13 PM I want to thank whoever posted "Seasons in the Sun", that was the first song I thought of when I saw this thread, and I had no idea who "sang" it. I have to agree about Bungle in the Jungle- I hated it when it was new & still do, though I am a Tull fan. The classic rock stations have a way of overplaying so much drivel- it is hard to know where to begin! BTO- I can sing better than that & I most assuredly can't sing! Styx, Journey, Bad Co., the list goes on & on. Thank goodness I don't have a tuner in my main system.
zenith2134 05-26-2009, 09:22 PM One band I never cared for: Red Hot Chili Peppers. Poor mastering aside, I just didn't like them much.
Drybasement 05-26-2009, 09:35 PM What song makes you want to smash your stereo?!!?

I will admit she has ONE good song *ducks*
Don't judge me. Being the one who started the shitty music thread and all.........
vegabass25 05-26-2009, 10:08 PM Good! keep the thread goin like this. Its nice people are finally cutting out the "I would never smash meh stereo! can i wreck yours?!!?" crap. I was beginning to think what was more stupid: waking this thread or titling it "what song makes you want to smash your stereo?!?" :D
wadeus 05-26-2009, 11:10 PM Smash mouth: Hey now you're an all star, get paid, etc...the whistling intro is enough to give the bad kind of chills.

Right On!! :thmbsp: I refuse too listen to radio and have no tuner in my system either.
Let's add these also to the Commercial Musical Garbage Can: Bob Seeger, Kansas, The Girls version of Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel, Elton John, overplayed Tull, PF's Money every 2 seconds & Boston!!
vegabass25 05-27-2009, 08:30 PM Ill add Justine timberlake to the list. He should be tied up and forced to listen to his own music for a few hours.

finnbow 05-28-2009, 04:09 PM A friend gave my wife "David Foster and Friends - Hitman." It's kinda of an all-star tribute to David Foster, the music producer. She loves it, but I think it's truly Gawd-awful.:yuck: It's sort of an American Idol combines with Kenny G to make elevator music. We have a rule on driving trips that the driver picks the music (and the volume). When she picks this, my son and I just cringe and wait for me to take the wheel and put on some Clash, Stones, or Costello.

I just hope you don't let her drive too often :D And when there is more than 2 in the car the rule should be democratic:thmbsp:
wadeus 05-28-2009, 05:22 PM A friend gave my wife "David Foster and Friends - Hitman."
Oh yeah, I saw part of that on PBS...way to make music boring, DF! No doubt he and his friends are talented, they just use their powers to blandify music into white bread rolled up into a ball. Maybe it's me.
He brought out this new 16 year-old talent, Charice (?) from the Philippines...she sang I will always love you...trying to make the new Whitney? He really gushed over her to the crowd...what an amazing new talent that I have personally discovered!
I had a mad thought that he might introduce her...crowd applauds! Then:
"AND...we are engaged to be married!!" Silence falls over the crowd...nation stunned by announcement. :smoke:

Nope, it's not you. Granted, the 16 year old gal has some pipes and the production on the CD is good, but the music itself is the most bland, overproduced dreck I've heard in a while. It makes me wretch just like a "Greatest Hits" compilation of Kenny G, Michael Bolton, and Celine Dion would.
mhk87 08-08-2009, 12:42 AM White stripes - icky thump.
Silversun pickups - panic switch, it has been number one on sirius for like 2 months somehow.
All of the 40 year old white male rock bullshit thats been coming out. Staind, nickelback, creed whatever it has all been polluting the radio for years and is the reason Im now listening to panic switch all day on sat radio.
Soundthought WHAT were you smoking when you posted that thread.

BadassBob 08-08-2009, 12:01 PM I hate Nickleback, and every other band that sounds like them. Sound-alike bands are all terrible. Half the time I turn on the radio I cant tell if its Nickleback, Chris Daughtry, Hinder, Creed, Staind, etc. They all sound the same. Damn RIAA...they find something that sells good, so they make EVERY band have that sound :(. Ok, Im done ranting, but I can go on for hours lol.
~Maxx 08-08-2009, 01:35 PM Anything with Autotune in it.
