View Full Version : Instant messaging
ckelly 10-07-2002, 12:47 AM Folks
Which instant messaging program do you use? I have friends all over the world and ended having contacts from ICQ, Yahoo, AIM and MSN.
I have discovered a solution to my problems with IM's, trillian, it groups themn all in one nice package. I'm happy with this one and recommend it highly :)

Kamakiri 10-07-2002, 07:27 AM I'm on AIM just about all day long, for work. I answer questions, take orders, and BS on AIM.
WildWest 10-17-2002, 06:26 PM I really don't use any. My wife is on MSN Messenger at work and I am on it here at my shop but we never turn it on. I don't have any time to chat like I used to when I was single. I find it is all I can do to post occasionally here (and once in a while in another forum or two) where I have the most fun related to my hobby and that's about sums it up for me. :)
Me neither I am not much into chatting.
George R 10-20-2002, 05:50 PM I use AIM, but I type so slowly that chatting is mostly "Mission Unlikely".

Unican_Eric 01-21-2006, 02:14 PM I use ICQ and Yahoo. I haven't turned them on in about 2 years......
dingus 01-21-2006, 04:11 PM i like the new yahoo messenger with voice, works great.
jpdylon 01-21-2006, 05:59 PM The new messenger does work great. However if you have multiple screen names with diffrerent providers, look into GAIM. Its an open source solution that has support for AIM, yahoo, MSN, ICQ, IRC, Jabber, and Gadu-Gadu, has an easy to use interface, and has fairly secure compared to most brand name clients. It has an account menu that allows you to chose which IM support you want, which accounts to remember your paswords for, which to sign in automatically, and other neat options.
Check it out sometime. Its been really useful for me.

OvenMaster 01-21-2006, 06:52 PM I use Yahoo! version 5. I think personally the newer versions 6 and 7 blow; too many features were cut out that I relied on heavily.

dbwinger 01-21-2006, 08:32 PM I use Yahoo Messenger 6 as that is how my Brother contacts me from Thailand. I only use it to talk to him. The interface is pretty simple and the webcam feature is nice. I communicate with most of my friends through personal messages on myspace.com.
tentoze 01-21-2006, 08:50 PM I can use MSN, AIM, and ICQ, but never do. I've had ICQ for a long time, when it was an upstart little thing developed and owned by a couple of Israelis, IIRC- my ICQ user number is relatively low in the 800k range, I think. Man, I used to waste a bunch of time on that thing back around '97 or so.

Sansui Louie 01-22-2006, 12:21 AM I administer Lotus Sametime for my company to about 4000 users worldwide. So I use that, internally. An old version of Yahoo, externally.
Negotiableterms 01-26-2006, 01:11 AM I have AOL, so I've used that, but generally I leave it off. IMs are a distracting nuisance most of the time.
